If I was playing more that is where I'd be looking. The mid-90s studios agree pretty well with my hands as well.

.....of course so do CE22s

So many guitars so little time

I'd recommend checking out the '13 Traditional's. They're solid bodies. No chambers or Swiss cheese holes. 57 and a 57+ pick-ups, 50's neck... Only problem is that they don't come in Ebony or Gold.

I've actually been thinking about getting something from the Norlin-era. Maybe a '75 Custom or Standard.

To be fair I already have too many guitars:
2012 PRS CE24 Custom,
2003(ish) Ovation Celeb,
1998 Les Paul SL (standard pickups, no covers, "fast" neck, SG thickness body)
early 80s ish B.C. Eagle.

and I haven't done more than a living room jam session in years.

There's two 70s Customs at the Guitar Center down here in San Marcos. One's a triple pickup with a natural finish. On both the three-piece maple neck is plain to see. I played the triple pickup and it immediately reminded me of what I hated about the old Customs: they're fretless wonders.

A guitar thread. Okay, I need some ideas here. I have a guitar. Also, I hate winter. Two things I plan to do this winter are, take Spanish lessons, and attempt to learn to play my guitar. What is the quickest route to success? Not looking to fill MSG by May. It's acoustic.

Not sure what the deal is with this thing, but I have had it on order for about two months....for a flippin Squire. They tell me the other colors are out there and have been out there, but white is just not available....no idea why, but it is to be here by the end of the week....I hope it is.

Depends on what you call "success" . . . I've had a lot of fun--and learned a ton--with the beginner lessons at http://www.justinguitar.com/. You can get the book (well worth the money), or just do the online stuff for free. You'll be playing easy songs pretty quickly, and then it can get as complex as you want it to get.

Was out dumpster diving one day, really, and found this, really.

It's a 1989 Epiphone Howard Roberts Fusion II, it's very rare because nobody knew who HR was by 1989, but not worth much because of the same reason. Some tweaker was in the process of ruining it, then threw it away. I got a friend to repair the electrics for me and he got it running. Just got it home and plugged in, wow..sounds awesome!!

I was sad to see that Bill Lawrence died on Saturday. He designed a lot of reallly cool guitar pickups for Gibson and others:

http://www.billlawrence.com/

I remember reading an article on him in Guitar Player many years ago; he did a good job of explaining the differences in pickups and why each type sounded like it did. Bill predated DiMarzio, Seymour Duncan, and the host of pickup designers today's guitarists are familiar with.

RIP Bill.
