Electric bass or acoustic? Try playing sitting down or shorten the strap so it rides higher. When I first started playing guitar I wanted to emulate Jimmy Page and tried having the guitar slung really low. Really hurt my wrist just playing bar chords, could not manage more difficult ones.

electric. get the same pain with guitars.

I've had the thing from just under my neck, do down around my pants.

i have a ridiculously placed pinky too. so I wind up rotating to reach the closer to parallel to the ground the neck is. = even more pressure applied to the neck. the closer to vertical the less i have to twist.

Maybe I should just man up and play the damn thing like a stand up bass.

Call the cops someone stole half of your pinkey finger

But I do know your problem...I can only play sitting down. I have no strength in my left arm and pinkey, ring finger due to nerve damage. Positive side is I never felt that finger bleeding, negative side no strength in those two fingers.

if you want it bad enough everyone will figure a way around it.

Yep. silly damned finger aint it? The one on the right hand is about a half inch longer. I'm saving that one for the kinky groupies.

I find a margarita or two or three greatly improves my pain tolerance and I can plonk longer.

Sweet! Did you make that yourself or purchase it somewhere. (edit: I see their website)

I made a cigar box guitar once - it was alright, but just for slide. Actually, it just made a nice wall ornament.
