Two days later I give them a call to see if it's still there. It is. I drop in and put down a deposit. Later that afternoon I get a call saying someone else wants to buy the guitar and can I pay the balance or they need to sell it to the guy with cash in hand. I have to give her up

The wife comes home a bit later than usual carrying a rather large Fender looking case and tells me she bought the 360-12 and proceeds to tell me about some asshole who was trying to put it on payments but she got it by offering them cash in full. My response - "Just call me asshole"

I love that story.....I did the same kind of thing to my wife with a scuplture she wanted....I would not let her buy it told her it was just too expensive and a dust collector. While she was in another store I ran down paid for it and told them to hold it for me and I would be back....and if they saw me again just to tell her it was sold.....we did go back and it was gone....she was so pissed at me it was amazing....I would not let her have it.....long story short when christmas came along and she opened it up she called me an ass and then I got the best hug I ever got.

In our house you are allowed to lie about gifts....it was such fun.

Mostly electric, but there are sub-forums for acoustic, playing techniques, etc. Probably the best guitar forum out there - http://www.thegearpage.net/board/

UG is kind of a be-all end-all, but http://acousticguitarforum.com/ is pretty good for what you're wanting.

Time was, rmmga was the equivalent in quality; get-togethers, collective CDs, great bunch of folks, didn't suffer fools, some classic head explodies, etc. A lot of folks are still there; not sure how it stacks up to those moderne web-based forum thingies, though.

Have you looked at the Guitar Center 1960 "G0" reissue? Those are real nice, and cheap! Well, less expensive than the "R0".

I got the chance to play a couple of nice guitars recently; Don't laugh, I'm a n00b, and have only played my cheapies. The bad news is, it's like when you own a KLR, and then you take a ride on a KTM 950- it ruins you.

one was a '95 Gibson J200 "jumbo", that a friend offered to sell me for what I thought was a really good price. Somebody buy my drums!

I think $2299 is my limit. I've looked at the GC Trad. Pro a little. It sells for $1999. Has a Burstbucker and a Classic 57 instead of two 57's. I'll probably keep looking or a while longer. I haven't seen the Epiphone 1960 Tribute either. Has everything the Gibson Trad does but was made in China with an Epi body. I've heard it's one of the best values out there and rivals the Gibson's. (Though not as good as the Custom Shop.) The new batch is supposed to arrive by Sept. I think.
