I completely enjoyed the detour into the Mennonite community north of Durango/south of Parral.

That's part of the dirt stretch in the above post.

To see road signs in German and to hear it spoken, in Mexico, was interesting.

SR and/or JD may chime in with trip data, but it was a very long but fulfilling road/dirt day with endless twisties.

Details on Santiago Pappasquiero in my ride report. Movies that may surprise you were filmed there.

We passed John Wayne's ranch, too.

I'm idle til Friday

Then, SR and I, and 95 Mexicanos, take these dirt bikes from Durango, across the Sierra, to Mazatlán

Mine is the DRZ 400

SR's is the WR 450

On Saturday, we stop for a photo on the yet-to-be-opened highest suspension bridge in North America

Sunday, langosta out-the-wazoo at Maz

Only if we make it there

Was a pretty good day on the bikes. Took a break at an abandoned schoolhouse.

Some good advice on the schoolyard wall.

Alice Cooper, anyone??

The textbooks were from 1994

Next stop Mennonite Country for lunch. Make mine a cheeeeeeeseburger.

This brother and sister were running the place and spoke Spanish and Lower German.

Then back to a little corner carving.

Was about a 400 mile day of fun.

After which we gathered at a local restaurant to celebrate SR's birthday.

Gotta get some shut eye. Big day tomorrow.

Wiseguy!
You would have been riding right into the teeth of a tropical storm from Mex DF to here if you had planned on coming in on Thursday PM. LOL!
That would have been a boot filler!

Appropriate Attire

An American producer was attending the Cannes Film Festival and was hoping to maybe get a little action. After a day of hanging out at the beach with no success he asked one of the French attendees for some pointers. The Frenchman said "well monsieur, sometimes we place a potato in the swimming suit and it works very well in attracting les femmes. The next time the American saw his French friend he was very perturbed he said "I tried your potato trick but it was a disaster, women would not talk to me, some people pointed at me, and some kids even laughed at me." His new French friend said "ah yes mon ami, I have erd about zis...usually ve put ze potato in ze front of ze swimming costume"

How many Scientologists does it take to change a light bulb?
None.
Scientologists can see in the dark.
