It's just a sexual preference. It's not like I'm doing German Shepherds or something wrong like that.

In connected news - a copy of the long admired Baja Almanac just arrived in the mail.

Highly recommended

It's about the size of the large size Guia Roja, so if that format annoys you, pass

However, I've been looking at it for the last hour - the detail is, as everyone always says, the best you can find.

Many have thought the original publishers of this product weren't printing any more of these. I have no idea.

But I do know that the San Diego based Discover Baja Travel Club still sells them.

email: ask@discoverbaja.com

About 30 clams (more or less) with postage

Get yours while supplies last if you want the best Baja mapset available.

And a new feature of the Baja Almanac for 2013: shows position of cartel roadblocks

And free, while supplies last, a foldout pictoral of how to land that roundhouse haymaker

To some that should be worth the 30 clams right there

My friend isn't one to tell stories, and he swears that the "intel" is legit.

Senor Stipple,
I have been through many Baja law enforcement check points and have never been asked my profession, nor have any of the Baja residents I know who travel up and down the Peninsula several times a year. The tourist permit does ask your profession, but there is no way for the Immigration guys to know that your friend is not a sanitation worker. Also, just about everyone I know who does not intend to travel beyond Baja, does not get a tourist visa. They used to check them at the Baja Sur border just before Guerrero Negro, but they stopped doing that several years ago. I'm not advising that you do not get one, I'm just saying that neither I, nor anyone I know, bothers to do so anymore.

However, if your friend truly believes this "intel", then he is correct in deciding that Baja is not for him. But it might be that this is his way of backing out of the trip, whatever his real reason.

As for the "intel" BS, it reminds me of a thread on a Harley forum that the Mystery Rider fowarded to me where some guy was claiming his cousin's girlfriend's brother or someone was thrown from an airplane because they had an oz. of mota on them or some such gibberish. Somebody saw too many movies.
Somebody else is watching too much reality tv.

Left Cola de Caballo Sunday morning after the bicyclists and took a short cut around the south side of Presa Rodrigo Gómez through the Bahia Escondido community. The rough asphalt road turned to hard pack dirt and big loose rock, dropping down to Hwy 10 through a series of switchbacks. Had a few steep sections so I had ABS off. Got onto Hwy 10 and stopped to shoot the Cueva de Los Murcielagos (Bat Cave) then on to Juarez and later Hwy 85 to Puente Colombia to queue up with the cages at the Border. Stopped by Casa Tricepilot for a break and hung around until he offered to buy me dinner to get me on my way. Works most of the time.

Did they get their "intel" from the TSA? We have all heard about US LEO's getting executed in Baja in the news and internet, happens every day I'm sure.
