Since 1917, people born in Puerto Rico have been given U.S. citizenship. I'm wondering how many of those 1,000 Americans were "real Americans" (i.e., Caucasians, as you allude to here) vs. native citizen residents of the island...who are also demonstrably "American".

Are the butterflies there yet at that time of year? Maybe if I'd stick around long enough.....

Hello all: I have been lurking here in "is Mexico safe" for awhile I thought I mite add what I have learned in my travels...

I was in San cristobal de las casas, drinking beer watching the world go by, these two Canadian couples ask to share my table, sure no problem, we get to talking about safety in Mexico, turns out the guys are both higher ups in the Royal Canadian mounted police! they told me about a couple from canada that were murdered in cancun, local police never figured it out, so he says we'll go down there and show them how it's done in canada.... they did! turns out it was another Canadian that followed them down, some-kinda business deal gone bad, the murderer figured they'd blame it on the Mexicans and he'd be in the clear.... and he was almost.....

Just something to ponder.....

I think your RCMP friends were mistaken about that couple in Cancun.
If it was the couple from near Toronto, Woodbridge area, that were there for a wedding, one of the hotel staff was the suspect and he hasn't been seen since. The state prosecutor in Quintana Roo tried to pin it on two women who were tourists from Thunder Bay.
The theory about the business partner was never considered seriously by anyone, and most people saw it as smokescreen to cover up the inept local constabulary.
Here is a decent timeline, if the Mounties are sure the two mysterious Canadian women did it, I wonder why they haven't caught them?
