One question, why did you decide to send Fred for gas instead of going yourself?
I can't remember - it was over 25 years ago! Maybe because he was the one who ran low on fuel! We would have discussed the matter to arrive at the best decision. He is also the more capable rider.
Cheers

Thanks for posting this 'A'
I remember you guys riding those mountains of gear out of Jurien but really had no idea what you were setting out to acheive. Yes I knew you were going to ride the Canning Stock Route, and I knew where Halls Creek was, but I had no idea where Wiluna was or what was in between the two towns. And I suspect I didn't care too much either.
Even when Fred returned, I have no doubt he would have told me all the stories, and I would have seen the photos, but I don't remember being all that interested.
It wasn't till many years later that I began to gain an appreciation for what you guys had acheived, and more so now, having ridden a heavy bike through some of that sort of country myself.
And to now see the whole story and pics all together it really put it in to perspective, just what an enormous acheivement it was. Well done.

I had a short chat to Fred today (only 68 minutes), and I mentioned that at that time, I han no idea of the enormity (is that a word) of what you guys had acheived.
His comment to that was that he thought he probably didn't realise it at the time either.
I guess you both had a fair bit better idea than I will ever have.

Cheers
Howard.

Canning Stock Route;I Have Added Some Video

I have now put some video into the ride report. It was digitised from the silent Super 8 film footage we took. Enjoy.
There was also a bit of text missing from day 9 that I added. Thanks for pointing that one out to me Dave.
To those readers who have been down the CSR in recent years, I would appreciate some comments regarding how the track, wells and so forth have changed from what you can see in our 1983 images.
Once again, thanks to all who have replied with such positive comments.
