leaky cock......petcock that is for HPN tank

I was going to take the G/S out the other day as it was warm, but I had some issues with the petcocks dripping when I opened them. I hadn't tried out the tank since putting it on.

So i finagled with it to keep it from dripping. I bought two acerbis petcocks from just gas tanks. I didn't notice a problem right off but eventually I noticed the levers pointed in the opposite direction when off. You would think the makers would have thought this out more when making these things.
Little things like that drive me nuts.....

Look at the photo...

This is unacceptable. So I looked at the original petcock for a name of the manufacturer and saw BAP on the back. Did a search on Google and found the innner gasket at Bevelheaven.com. $9.50 for the gasket though!!!! Marginally better than $18.00 for the petcocks which face the wrong way.

There are two o-rings which need to be replaced, one which goes between the tank and valve and one which seals the lever to the body.

The petcocks on my HPN tank go the same way as yours do. Well, I do agree it doesn't look right but I just don't care enough to find it unacceptable.

it's annoying but I've gotten used to it. When the bike starts getting fuel starved I reach down real fast and feel for that bend at the bottom of the tank. The petcock is right below that. Which direction the petcock's in, I push it in the other.

I liked these petcocks
(they are on my 5.8gallon XR tank)

I like the arrow that points to what they are doing.

The cost of making them have the "tail" point the same way isn't worth it to me.

I like the way they work, but I think they should both have the arrow point backwards when off like the right petcock. Shit if they both pointed the same way It would be a no brainer as to which way to turn.....Just one of those irritating things for me, I like things to be right

I'm sending them back and reworking the old ones. I sent picture yesterday to Just gas tanks to see what they say...probably nothing.

"The cost of making them have the "tail" point the same way isn't worth it to me."

To make them right in the 1st place it wouldn't have cost them any more to make them correctly as there is a different rt and lft body, sure as heck wouldn't cost you.

Maybe we're talking about something different.
But the petcocks that I have are the same part left to right.
There isn't a left and a right side, like the GS petcocks with the output that goes towards the back,
one part means it's cheaper to make and hopefully cheaper to buy.

On my acerbies tank (for a XR650L) the petcocks outlet tube is straight down.

Now that I've gone back and looked at yours. I agree. that's just stupid what they did. It looks like they took the petcocks the straight output and modded them to be 90degrees
