The first time I drove a car, I took my mom through the mixing bowl and up to Alexandria. It was only after we got out of the car that I told her, in fact, driving class in school did not involve actually driving

A copy of a post on the Dubya thread

(Sorry I didn't try to link up with anyone else. Getting over a cold, just got up and decided to ride . . . . ).

Beautiful fall day down here in Virginia. Since I rode the GS yesterday () this seemed like a good day for the Dub. Thought y'all might like some gratuitous motorsickle porn . . . . complete with some nice fall foliage . . . .

Big Cobbler Mtn, near Hume.

Some random guy's yard near Flint Hill. He's got good taste in trees . . .

Geese heading south. At least these guys probably won't spend the winter pooping on the DC parks by the Potomac.

All the rest are from Skyline Drive--most are south of Thornton Gap.

I really like the way this bike rides and handles now. The suspension mods have made a big difference--the bike is solid in the corners, even bumpy ones. (Tho' the GS isn't as stiff--more supple). And the engine is a jewel. Rode the freeway out to Marshall. Just keeping up with traffic, 75-80 indicated, no problem at all. The engine seems more comfortable at this speed that the Wee Strom. (Maybe it's just 'cause I'm less comfortable--the Dub's nekkid after all).

The dub handled 211 up to Thornton Gap beautifully. Very little traffic early in the morning, used both lanes going up. Didn't press it too hard but the bike was rock solid. Then tootling along Skyline with it's tourists and restricted speeds. Did mostly back roads (through Hume, then 55 east from Marshal) but did discover the Dub can in fact do the ton . . . . . . . more than once. Then I66 again back from Haymarket.

Mileage--because much of the ride was at gentle speeds--64.91 mpg.
I knew it got good mileage at lower speeds . . . but this way really neat. Around town, 50-55 mpg is more usual.

+1 That Flint Hill area is like your test track. You've got to know it well by now. say...that fence looks like Beast Rider's house

So I rolled around NOVA for a bit then filled up with gas for an amazing 105mpg since my last fill up in Luray

While at the gas station, an attendant came by and began telling me about the special 5cent gas rebate with this card...yada..yada...but she had a German accent. So I started speaking German with her and her eyes immediately lit up. We got to talking about my scooter and she told me about the one she had when living in Germany. She asked to take it for a ride around the gas station. She was smiling and yelling to her friend "weeee!!!" I could tell it made her day

By the way Mike, their website says "The Main Street Pub is open daily from 11 a.m. until 10 p.m., Sunday Thursday". Are you sure they're open at 8 a.m.?

I called them yesterday and asked. They said Sunday they are open from 8AM-Noon. I will call and double check. It'd be the herder thing to do to show up to a closed restaurant with a group
