Man that sounds like the holy grail to me, I rent out 2br apts for more than that in DC and VA. PW Co. or PG Co. are most likely to have what u want house wise but unlikely to meet ur 10mi/30 min commute criteria, plus not all the close in areas of those counties are the best hoods to live in. Wish u luck.

Why do you want to live on the 14th street bridge??

On a serious note, I think it's pretty tough to find a garage close to DC. Not that it can't be done, but certainly tough. Would you settle for a car port?

I don't know if you have free parking at your office, but if not, I would look further out at places that are a short drive to the metro.

Good luck.

This one is more likely 45min to 1hr to K Street. But it's also 5 minutes to the Springfield Metro or the ramp to HOV. Pretty nice neighborhood and close to NoVA tag central. I realize you're several years younger than I and probably still hit Old Town/Arlington/Foggy Bottom, but I really like the feeling of being away from DC when I get home and having some space between myself and the neighbors.

Butters, something like that could work. I might go take a look.

I know it'll be tough, but it is entirely possible as I've nearly done it twice. Should have moved faster on the last one - was a great neighborhood in Annondale/Falls Church just off Annondale blvd, $1,500/mo, oversized 1-car garage (more like 2-cars deep) on .75 acers. Was 11.5 miles door to door, so just a tiny bit further than ideal, but still bicycleable. House was tiny (maybe 800 sq ft), but well kept. Liked it a lot and wanted to rent it, but turns out someone else looked at it right before us and nabbed it before we had a chance to. A carport won't do, I want to keep the bikes in a garage and need a place to wrecnch in the winter. PG Co is pretty much out, PWC is further than I'd like, but if its very close to a HOV on/off ramp it could work.

I'm not bothered by being close to night life or not, my idea of a perfect night is me in a garage with my bikes, tools and pizza

There's free motorcycle parking near my office, so I usually avail myself of that. Cage parking is $240/mo or $14/day, so driving to the metro is a good point if/when I need to cage it.

I kinda liked the looks of this

but the wife wants central AC too...

thanks again!

How often do you use the truck and trailer?

Have you considered renting a storage place further out for them?

Pretty often, enough that it'd be a hassle. I haven't got a cage other than the truck (wife has a car, but she works), so if I ever need to carry anything too large to strap to the bike I need the truck. I usually like to go dirt biking a couple times a month and that requires the truck and trailer. I have thought about storage, but storage places, but really hoping to get all my stuff in one place. If I can't find anything, that's an option (or dealing with a longer commute). I tend to dislike planned, HOA governed communities anyway, so once those are nix'd most places with garages will probably have room for the truck and trailer too I hope.

If I'm ever home for more than enough time to catch a couple of hours of sleep I'll post pics of the truck and trailer. This is the only one I can think of that I've got hosted and its just the truck, and not a good one at that. Its also got my ugly mug (right) and some other dude who insisted on getting a pic with me.

I know this taco truck in Rosslyn

There is Bob & Edith's on Columbia Pike (never been)

An IHOP at Potomac Yard and Kingstowne (I'd ride my bicycle)

A Denny's by Edsal

I'm a big fan of Ikea Coffee and Breakfast but that is not convenient for anyone.

Kind of depended on the geographic distribution of the responders and if anyone planned to do a Tag grab after. So how about these options in no particualr preference: 1) Silver Diner at Springfield Mall, 2) Silver Diner/Clarendon Arlington, 3) Old Town Alex but I can't recall any places there?

Others?

We did Silver Diner last time and I wasn't super impressed. I used to go all the time back in High School but their prices have jumped up and their food wasn't smashing.

I'd probably be in though.
