Friday before Labor Day weekend??? Rush hour for that was Wednesday!

You know there won't be anybody in DC tomorrow. The few that are there will be gone by lunch. I'm thinking all the roads will be smooth sailing until you get to the Beltway or I95.

That's an excellent point, though it makes me feel worse that I am working right now and will have to work tomorrow.

I will take Rock Creek Parkway. At least it's pretty.

I am helping a friend move (she lives in North Bethesda) and I am trying to figure out how to get there. I won't be able to get off early enough to ride with the wife, so I am going to be riding the bike in rush hour in DC. Trying to find the best route.

Thanks,
John

EDIT: I am leaving from 20th and K.
Take K to Rock Creek Parkway, then get off at Connecticut (through Cathedral Ave.) and go for it.

Keep in mind that from 3-3:30ish to 6-6:30ish Rock Creek Parkway is one way (heading North) for rush hour traffic, so you're good there. But people get stupid where the lanes divide and/or they need to take exits, so be careful.

Connecticut will be 4 lanes out, two lanes in with no parking, this goes from Cathedral up to Military. However BE CAREFUL for people who can't read signs: they will make left turns from the 3rd lane (from right) instead of the 4th, or they will use 3 lanes instead of 2 coming into DC.

That video is ridiculous. Thanks for the tips, I think that route is the way to go.

Is there any reason why I shouldn't take Beech Drive the whole way? It looks like a nice road, and I don't mind taking a while.

The Rock Creek Parkway is one way going south from the Connecticut Avenue, between 6:45- 9:30 AM and one way north from 3:45 - 6:30 PM, MONDAY-FRIDAY. All other times, the Parkway is open to both ways of traffic.

So, Rock Creek Parkway was trafficky but moving. I really enjoyed Beach Drive though. It's slow with blind corners and some stop lights, but it was hard to believe I was in DC. I did the full length of it and it beat the hell out of Connecticut ave. it might even have saved me time as there was a lot less stopping.

My DC traffic incident of the day was when some asshole make a U turn from the right lane of a two lane road with no signal and nearly hit me. That was awesome.

sorry just saw this today.

I agree Beach Dr. is a hoot, but it can get really congested sometimes (stop-and-go the entire way), that's why I suggested Connecticut Ave.

Rock Creek Park is awesome! I even take my grandparents there for walks, we love it!

Yet I'm sure they would have found a way to turn it against you if there had been an accident... Main reason I have a camera.
