That is a helpful theory. The main thing that makes it resonate with me is that I think the book really is social commentary first and foremost.

A few years after publication, Bret Easton Ellis admitted that it was largely autobiographical, but no one thinks he's a serial killer. Given that, the central point really can't be the killings.

One of the few books I've actually taken the time to read that wasn't reference. It's entertaining to say the least. I like the movie but it's a seriously half assed attempt cover the depth and darkness of the book
