Cool stuff. I miss Washington state. Lived there for 16 years and still have not seen it all. Maybe I should go back and ride to all of the corners of the state... Then hit the middle!

You can get one right here.

But seriously, that is a cool bike!

Have you seen Harley's new electric bike? Sounds pretty bad ass!

Thumb Ready to let 'im rip

Here's the Black Brute, fully loaded for my trip, just after a 45 minute shakedown ride.

I'm leaving early morning 7/4. The trip is planned to be about 5,000 miles; planned to go through 18 states and 4 Canadian provinces, and planned to take about 20 days, including a day's layover in Charlottesville while Anton does its 72k and we see Gogol Bordello. Under 10% will be ridden on interstates. All except 2 days of the trip will be solo and much of it will be camping. It'll be 11 days before I see a washing machine. With that in mind, in case it may be of interest, here's the packing list. The panniers are about 2/3 full, and that'll go down as I eat my camping food.
  • 2-man tent w/rain cover
  • Sleeping bag
  • Thermarest self-inflating mattress
  • Thermarest pillow
  • Space blanket/ground tarp (reinforced fabric)
  • 5 pr running shorts
  • 8 T-shirts (incl 4 running shirts, one long-sleeved) (these and the shorts are technical, quick-dry, so can be washed and hung to dry anywhere)
  • 4 pr Smartwool and similar calf-length socks
  • 2 Buffs
  • Cap w/brim (quick-dry also)
  • Chaco sandals
  • Small messenger bag for walking around town
  • iPhone & charging cord
  • Lightweight headlamp and USB charger
  • Cash
  • Canadian cash
  • Sunglasses w/interchangeable lenses
  • Reading glasses
  • Spare reading glasses (sigh)
  • Giant Swiss Army auto-tool knife thing
  • WD-40
  • Tools that came with bike
  • --> Credit cards, AAA and AMA memberships <--
  • Spare ignition key duct taped to frame in inconspicuous spot
  • Zip ties
  • 4 extra bungies
  • (2 bungies and a cargo net hold the camping crap atop the Brute)
  • 1 liter water
  • MSR Pocket Rocket stove & fuel
  • Aluminum bowl
  • Lighter
  • Spoon
  • Camping potholder & washcloth
  • About 6 days' dehydrated camping food
  • Tennis ball to massage shoulders with
  • Bug spray
  • Trial size shave cream & toothpaste
  • Paper maps w/routes marked
  • Post-Its
  • 2 pens

Most gear is packed in sturdy plastic bags. By the way, I heartily recommend the Roadtrippers app for planning. I've tried so many other options, and theirs works the best.

He didn't list bear spray, so probably not.

Good luck on the trip! I saw Gogol Bordello once in a Bulgarian bar in NYC about 10 yes ago. Great show. And the grumpy cat decal has me in stitches.

Good point! I did arrange for my Canadian insurance card, so that's all tucked away with the other. But yeah, passport...just found out today about that. I feel...safer...yeah, that's it.

Hey Blix, this'll be the 6th or 7th time seeing them, but I do wonder what it must've been like to see them back then! Was it just a total sweaty party?

I remember it being absolutely nuts, in the best way possible. A small venue (bar in Chinatown) packed to the walls, everyone dancing and cheering. An awesome vibe.

Good luck on your ride. I am trying to put together a packing list for my cross country trip. I will utilize your list based on experience. Still need to get a tank bag and camping equipment.

Any suggestions on where to shop for them?
