This is a 1989 Yamaha Venture Royale Its got a 1300cc motor and runs fine. This was my starting motorcycle and would make a great first bike for anyone. Its old and its not beautiful but it gets the job done. I Just put a brand new battery in it for this rideing season. I used the bike all last year to go to work and on leisure rides on skyline drive. The bike has 40000+ miles on it.

I wonder where he went on those 2,000 miles per year he rode it.

The new title said it was a custom, not even a Honda anymore!
The search function seems to not be working right now. I thought I saw the thread in Thumpers but can't be sure now.
If I run across it I'll post a link.
According to the website, it *should* be easy peasy. *should* I know DMVs tho...

I AM still a WY resident. Worst comes to worst, I can title something there and 'bring it back.' WY is not too tough on stuff like that.

...course, its easier to just buy one with a plate and not hassle with it. In fact, I think that's what I'll do. There was this XR600 in Stafford that made me go hmmmmm. Guys in CO love those things.

If you aren't the original owner and the prior owners didn't title it you are SOL as far as I'm aware. Its entirely possible there's some work-around I'm unaware of though. This is why plated dirt bikes tend to command a serious price premium over non-plated ones around here.
This would be assuming the bike was purchased in VA. If it was out of state untill "you" purchased it, VA has no claim of back taxes.

Well if you bought it new it would be a piece of cake!

IIRC the hardest part that guy had trouble with was scheduling a DMV inspector to come by his house. Something like a months wait.
I tried doing a search yesterday but the results page kept coming up as a blank white page...
I'll give it another shot here...

Ha! Solve the whole thing and by my XR250L--plated, titled, tagged. I'd get it inspected except it's got non-DOT tires on it . . . . .

I've never seen an inspector check for a DOT stamp and few even check for "off highway use" - of course the latter lettering seems to have a habit of rubbing off sometimes...

I'm still at work, but have knocked a bunch off so I'll be able to sneak away for a bit tomorrow. I'm thinking I'll knock out a few hours early tomorrow AM, then ride from DC to MFI around 11am, hang for a couple of hours, then back to DC till late. I'll steal the wife's Monster I think as my TL is down for much-needed repairs/maintenence/suspension upgrades and the DR250 isn't the ideal freeway machine (though its actually not too bad)

As for plating stuff, it sounds like at best you'll spend half your life at the DMV. Spend the extra $$ up front and get something already titled unless you've lots of free time on your hands. Just my 2c.

I'll probably be there around 11a with my son (6yo) in the car. If they have a Versys available to ride, I might come back.
