Valve shims

Hi, anybody out there who had problems with valve shims on a 950? I experienced that KTM does fit the smallest, a 2.30mm shim, or 2nd smallest shim available on the intake valves. If the valves settle and the clearence gets to tight you have problem on hand!

The HD V-Rod uses the same shims, with more sizes available than KTM. Go to any HD dealership to get what you need.

The largest my local HD dealer had was a 2.45- said it would take a couple weeks to get em larger than that. The parts dude said that Harley told them the "range" would be like 2.1 to 2.45 or some shit. I don't remember the #s, just that i couldn't get my shims.

I had the same experience. Ended up buying a Hot Cams kit. Now I'm done running out to get shims forever.

Can someone list the HotCams kit product number please? On their site I see a list cost $40.95. Here in the UK $123.70, hey the extra $83 must be for postage from the US to UK cos the kits real heavy. Are tourists advertising slogan should be “Come to the UK, bend over and touch your toes! Immigrants pass go and collect £200.”

You're looking at the wrong kit. Part number is HCSHIM02. $90 US retail. Looks like Amazon has them for $75.

Difference with the KTM vs HD shims is the HD ones are in 0.025mm increments and the KTM are 0.05mm Bit of a bugger considering the valve clearance for the intakes is 0.05mm. Kinda makes it hard getting it just right dont it??? I was quoted $AU 9.80 per shim at my local KTM dealer - got the whole 8 from HD for $AU32.00 - and they're spot on bang in the middle of tolerence. Thanks HD

I found a can, I think it's got worms in it. Why buy new shims when you can sand the old ones down?
