Chip,
You might want to add this one to the reference section of the index. http://www.advrider.com/forums/showthread.php?t=553208 I thought it was very well put together.

TAT Oregon updates
I spent two days with Sam last week going over the problem areas in Oregon.
He is currently scheduled for vacation to go out there in June. We looked at the maps with my tracklogs, pictures of the actual closures, suggested reroutes and other possible reroutes. Here is the current list of problems and the suggested reroutes at this time. Please be advised that a few of these will change after Sam finds a better way when he goes out there. At Sam's request I revised these slightly from my original form and am posting these here at his request. He is now including these notes in any new set of route charts that are going out. So here ya go - now quit yer bitchin'! Here are some known problems on the TAT in Oregon, along with possible reroutes. I'll give you the mileage where the problem is, and then a possible reroute to where you hook back up. If you don't have Sam's route guide for the Oregon section of TAT it won't do you any good as I'm not telling you WHERE you are! Problem 0 - From mile 42.42 to 48.27 the road is private and now closed. Reroute - At mile 42.12 go straight, reset trip meter to 0.0 At mile 2.5 turn left At mile 3.0 turn right At mile 5.6 bear right At mile 6.0 turn left At mile 6.9 turn right, you are now back on course at mile 48.97. Problem 1- Just past corner 151.48 the road has been closed. Reroute - At corner 150.75 turn RIGHT on main gravel road instead of left, reset trip meter to 0.0 At mile 2.4 bear left At mile 2.5 turn left on pavement At mile 7.1 turn left on 2 track At mile 8.8 turn right. You are now back on course at mile 159.10. Problem 2 - At mile 235.12 the bridge is closed. Reroute - At mile 232.81 turn left on highway, reset trip meter to 0.0 At mile 1.1 turn right After crossing RR and river, turn right at mile 1.3 At mile 2.4 turn LEFT. You are now back on course at mile 236.39. Problem 3 - A landslide has blocked the road at 325. Verified 8/28/09 Some bikes have gone over the blockage, but it is not advised. Reroute - At mile 318.80 turn right, reset trip meter to 0.0 At mile 2.5 bear left At mile 3.5 turn hard left At mile 5.2 bear left At mile 9.7 bear right At mile 9.8 bear left At mile 12.2 bear right At mile 12.7 bear right At mile 13.5 turn left At mile 13.7 bear right At mile 19.0 turn right. You are back on course at mile 334.12 This reroute is all dirt, but slightly longer. Problem 4 - the gas station at mile 438.39 has closed as of 8/28/09. Alternate gas can be found by going straight at mile 441.31 for 3.4 miles, turn left, go 0.4 miles, gas on left - regular only. Also the end of day motel near here is closed. Problem 5 - at mile 449.12 the road has been closed - there are actually two closures in this area. Reroute - At mile 449.12 go straight, reset trip meter to 0.0 At mile 0.4 turn hard left At mile 0.8 bear left At mile 1.6 bear left At mile 2.1 bear right (left branch is blocked) At mile 2.9 bear left At mile 4.7 go straight At mile 5.4 turn left At mile 7.0 go straight At mile 8.0 bear left At mile 8.4 go straight. You are back on route at mile 456.80 Problem 6 - The route between miles 483 and 493 is a mess. Beautiful area through. Ridden 8/29/09 They are logging that area, there have been fires, there are new roads, and old roads are closed. Some of the roads on the maps are not there, and there are roads that are not on the maps. I would suggest that you bring your roll charts for this area, and have a mapping GPS. A mid sized bike can make it through, big bikes might have trouble. Problem 7 - the road from 509.14 to 509.70 is blocked. Reroute - At mile 590.14 turn left and take the lower road through. You will rejoin the route at approx mile 512.29 Problem 8 - at mile 539.5 the route is closed by a landslide. Reroute - At mile 536.48 go STRAIGHT, reset trip meter to 0.0 At mile 0.9 turn left onto pavement. At mile 2.9 turn left At mile 3.2 bear left At mile 7.3 go straight. You are back on route at mile 541.94 Problem 9 - at mile 569 the bridge has been removed. Reroute - At mile 568.20 go straight, reset trip meter to 0.0 At mile 1.2 go straight At mile 11.6 you have reached Pacific Coast Highway. Port Orford is left 3 miles. |
