Deals Gap SOVA/ETN/WNC Conditions 4/2010

Just wondering what the gap is like that FIRST WEEK of April.

I'm hoping to hit skyline dr, blue ridge pkwy, deals gap, and cherohala then.

Any advice on the temps/weather/LEO/other bike traffic then?

I'm hoping to beat the summer madness but don't wanna freeze/soak my ass off.

It will be between the 20s with snow and the 70s with sunshine. Likely within a period of one day.

You're really risking snow, ice, and some real cold weather in early april. Deals Gap might be OK but the higher elevation of the BRP will almost certainly be cold. I'd skip skyline drive unless you enjoy paying a fee to ride really slow.

You can come down in the peak tourist season and still avoid the most of the crowds and LEOs by riding on some of the less famous roads.

Last Saturday was the day for the Gap. Sunny and 60s. Some dude on a yellow R1 had it to himself.

Bluhduh wait another month

You will be better off holding off just a few more weeks. If the temps are up there will still be salt and gravel all over the roads. Mix road salt with cold roads and you loose a lot of grip with even good rubber. Traffic is never bad on the weekdays in peak season. If your out that far you may as well ride 421 and get your “Snake“ stickers too.
