added an auxiliary tranny cooler too. So far so good. Cruises nice on the thruway @ 70-75mph.
I had no idea that little motor would pull that large a trailer.

It's amazing what you don't need a 10mpg V8 for ain't it?

Quite a contrast given the guy above runs a V8 to pull a trailer that's only 13 inches long.

Oops - that's 13 feet - not inches - and you're wrong about the V-8.

Its 112 HP of four cylinder turbo-diesel goodness that gets 23 mpg while pulling the trailer (which is why I look for small lightweight trailers to begin with)

My old 13' Boler weighed around 900 lbs - I think the U-haul weighs a bit more - maybe around 1100 to 1200 lbs. I've seen Honda Elements towing these small 13' fiberglass trailers pretty regularly.

You got my attention. That's referring to the LR Defender? What kind of MPG do you get in normal highway driving? I have a bunch more questions but I'll give you a break and go to google.

Its a Tdi and it gets around 25 mpg around town - and somewhere around 27 on the highway if you keep it below 65 - above 65 the barnlike aerodynamics start working against you. I need to replace the timing belt as the mileage has started to fall off and the pump timing probably isn't spot on. I've heard of some folks getting around 30 mpg with this engine but I'm too much of leadfoot to see those numbers.

Unfortunately these aren't commonly available in the USA but a lot of old Land Rovers are coming in under the 25 year old exemption clauses for DOT and EPA regulations. Since every part of these trucks unbolt its easy to upgrade components and customize the vehicle to your needs. You can even convert a USA spec V-8 truck to a diesel (except in some states) and get almost twice the fuel mileage of the V-8 version.

There's a 2.8 liter International version of the Land Rover engine that's built in Brazil. It has variable vane turbocharging and a few more horsepower with an even fatter torque curve. A friend of mine has one of those in his 110 and its a great setup.

Little Guy is way to big

Have pulled about 900 miles testing. As any pull-behind should, Spud weighs less than 1/3 of the pull bike, my 800cc Drifter -- The only motorcycle camper to meet that benchmark. I hired a patent attorney yesterday. All will be reveled soon.

Silly LittleGuy, go on a diet. Where's your TV/DVD/AM-FM, galley, air compressor and heated bunk? Meet the future.

Saw a Heartland MPG on the interstate the other day-- looks intriguing, but I can't figure out a way to post an image of one with this annoying Windows laptop.

Emerson Biguns rented one for Fourmile Freakout from a dealer in Salida. His son gave me a tour. Pretty neat little thing!

I can't have a small one (with me) if i full time in a not-so-small rv! (www.horizonsrv.com)
