Looks like a little slice of hell after a full day driving (or whatever) setting up in the dark, when you just want to rack out.

Yeah, I think half way through the first set up, you'd think to yourself, "WTF didn't I just buy a camper top!?!"

For car camping I use a 4-man backpacking tent-- can stand in it stooped over. Quick easy set up and tear down.

I do want to get a non-ground sleeping set up. That's why I started this thread way back when.

I made the same mistake on one of the first trips with my pop-up with a slide out.
But mine was also on a badly sloped site (3 blocks high under one of the wheels) in the dark & it was raining.

FWIW, I will NEVER forget to leave room for the slide again.

Just wait until you find one of the damn sites that has the plumbing in a different location than the power and your hose(s) are not long enough.
Oh and its in the dark, the bugs are wicked and you just spent 15 mins getting it blocked up on one side because the site is badly sloped.

That's another one I wont forget to check.

Pretty much done. I had the material laying around already, I just bought the ball bungie things and the grommets. It will fit a couple camp chairs under it (and probably a cooler of beer.)

Me too and I've learned harder lessons

One thing I learned by a guy out there as I was cranking down my leveling jacks that are not electric. He said to go buy a 18v cordless drill for $60 and a drill bit that fits that jacks and presto. Instant electric leveling jacks for cheap

That's great advice. I use a special bit to crank my pop-up and the jacks. Works wonderfully with a 18v drill.

Solid advice about the awning too.
