Hopefully it will be a little smoother than this year...there were many very rocky and ledgy sections that I didn't get photos of while trying to wrestle the BRP's through. The rains did a number on the steeper parts of this trail! All good though, the scenery made up for it!

This was the sunset from our hotel room in Catavina.
![]() We were able to park the bikes in this entry way in front of the room. Way cool! ![]() Nice place! ![]() ![]() We showered up and had a few cold ones unwinding from the days ride. We got our gear cleaned up and Kevin and I got the bikes chains serviced and chatted about the great ride we had today. Fantastic variety and scenery. This day is what Baja is all about!! ![]() We headed to the hotel restaurant for dinner. Started off with some chips and salsa... ![]() ...and Kevin suggested we try out a beer called Victoria. He said the hotel in Catavina is the only place he's ever seen it, but it was good! ![]() This was also the first time I've ever tried shrimp nachos!! Awesome!!! ![]() The meals were outstanding, but I think the Victoria beer was getting to Kevin...or maybe it was the water! ![]() ![]() ![]() Kevin layed out tomorrow's ride plan with us after dinner. Sounded good as we were to head south out of Catavina back to the Pacific coast, run the coast for 40+ miles and then cut back east towards the Sea of Cortez running some more single track along the way and ending the day in Bahia de Los Angeles. Can't wait!!!

Looks like the same room to me! Awesome views in that area. The one with two beds on the west end and one bed in a separate room on the east end?
Good to meet you at Rick's last Sunday!!

I'd been reading this RR from the beginning, and it must have fallen off page one or something

![]() My room at the Desert Inn was one away from the corner and didn't have a separate room w/ a bed, I'll bet they were adjoining though. I got separated from my buddies coming out of Villa Jesus Maria and made Catavina - they stopped in Santa Rosaliita on the beach. We also had an unsuccessful Pacific coast attempt after a brief afternoon stop at Mike's and heading west out of there - but it wasn't quite as rugged as your out 'n back The flood damage was pretty amazing, just about everywhere we were had been affected. We came across many, many washouts...but few as dramatic as a couple in this RR.

We had the corner room which was fairly large with two rooms and three beds. Great place to stay and good food! Yeah, I was a little bummed about the washouts around Mikes on this trip as it was my first real Baja trip (one other failed attempt in 1997). It just wasn't going to happen for us on this trip to get to the Pacific coast from Mikes. I do think now that there would have been one other possible way that we didn't find out of V de T, but...oh well! We're already planning our secend assualt of Baja so we'll try again. Just hoping some of the roads out of Mikes get some use this season and the trails open up a little better. Malcolm needs to get to trail clearing in the area!!

I had to bury/hide a box of 38 special behind the hotel a few years back.
Forgot I had the damned things in the truck and I sure as hell didn't want them found at a checkpoint. |
