What's My V-Strom Worth?
I think my DL-1000 is a great road bike, and it can handle the local dirt roads (like the one I live on). Its basically my first road bike after a lot of dirt riding. But I hardly ever ride it! Its a 2003 (bought after the riding season had ended) and in almost a year I have fewer miles (less than 2,000) than some of you folks put on in a weekend. I bought it to ride 2-up with my wife, but she works so much, she hardly ever gets to take a ride with me.
I am thinking of selling it (Strom not wife), either to put towards a KTM950 so that I could still do road, or to just drop the road bit entirely and buy a woods racer (non-plated) outright with cash back (keeping my plated DRZ for dualsport). I have been riding with some of the lesser B racers on their days off and even rode a race on the DRZ (got skunked) so am thinking of going racing..... So wise ones, what does the book and your gut say I should try to get for my bike - silver, Givi hardcases, Givi crash bars, Suzi centerstand, 1 tooth down in front and electronic speedo corrector installed. never crashed but fell over once when parked (side stand sank). Would it be better to sell it as a package, or to sell the bare bike w/stand (& speedo) and then sell the cases and bars separately? -Vincent |

Suggested retail from Kelley's Blue Book is $6,800. For whatever that's worth. I think you should sell it without the Givi cases and cut me a smokin' deal on them.

Its high as a dirt bike and I ride dirtbikes, but they don't weigh 440 lbs. The combo of height and weight may be too much for me, esp. for 2-up. If I do it, I think I'll take the bags, crash bars and maybe even the centerstand off the Strom to sell separately. Then maybe e-Bay the bike for a short auction with the floor set at what the dealer would give me for it; either I'll get more or not. whatever- -Vincent |
