Calling all WNC'ers to double check my route!

Gents,

I'm planning a weekend DS ride with some friends in April. We will be basecamping at a cabin on Hwy 28 between Franklin and Bryson City. I'd really like some input from you guys as to whether or not all of these roads I've used are legal, open roads. We will be on XR's so I'm not necessarily worried about road conditions, I just don't want to have to reroute on the fly you know?

Starting from the waypoint: Cabin;
-Southwest loop on the day 1.
-North, northeast loop on day 2.

Also please advise me if we're biting way too much in one day. if the loops are too long.

I'd love it if ya'll want to use the file, ride the loops! enjoy it!!

Thanks!

PS.- Ok, I can't upload the file, it's too big... If anyone is willing to check it out for me, or just wants it, please PM me your email address and I'll be glad to send it.

Also,

For some reason when I convert to .gpx using gpsbabel, it turns my tracks that white/clear color. If you would rather have the .gdb version with a bright color on the tracks, specify in your PM. Thanks!!

Thanks again for checking it out!!

Is it just because of time of year that some of the roads are not open?

I guess what I'm asking is, would the route be fine if it was say, August?

As I mentioned in my email message, some of the route you proposed doesn't normally open until May 28, some earlier, some parts are generally always open. In August, your entire proposed route would be open unless closed for repair or due to storm damage. Closings start again in October.

Foster definately knows his way around these parts. If he says the road is closed he is probably right. Re-route accordingly
