Gudday all,
Just a quick question, when the swingarm is extended, where how what when do you get a 100mm longer driveshaft??? Is there a thread about this lurking somewhere?? Regrads FBC

Have a look at these threads for an extended mono driveshaft:
http://www.advrider.com/forums/showthread.php?t=467221 http://www.advrider.com/forums/showthread.php?t=432325 Also note the other method mentioned, which is a longer coupling to the final drive - pictured in the first thread I've linked to. |

Curious what front end is that on your GS? I have heard YZ450 forks and triples will work with slight modification. I have found the old spindley forks to be a real weak point.

They're WP 4054s. Says it on the front. White Power has been making forks for KTM for ages so it's probably off an old KTM. The 4860s are the USD forks on their new stuff.

Stagehand, what all, if anything, have you done to that PD to make it more dirtworthy? I have an 89GS that I want to dream about taking off road. That looks fun!

The front end is a ktm WP 4054 with stiffer springs. The only thing that i have to do is turning the diameter of the bearing to ø 28 instead of the original ø 29mm. The offset of the triples is much less than BMW,it is only 22 mm.

what's required to flip the rear brake actuator?
I'd like to do a "high brake" mod to my 1981 r80g/s. I see many of the bikes in this thread have that.
What is necessary? can I just put it on upside down? it looks like the cam will rotate the wrong way then. Should i reverse front and rear brake shoes? thanks jason |

You will need to run a Bowden cable otherwise the rear brake will start to be activated as the wheel travels up. When you bottom out on the suspension you could lock up the brake creating a dangerous situation.
The Bowden cable create more resistance and will reduce braking. I would recommend making a flexible cable from 4,5 mm cable(same as most car clutch cable). Get the cable maker to make the cable with both ends fitted with a 6 mm fitting and use the screw in fitting on the brake lever side of the old rod to adapt your cable to fit the brake lever. With this you can then just keep a spare brake arm, it is small and light enough to keep in your tool kit. If you ride in very rocky terrain often I would recommend the HPN floating cam in upright position with Bowden cable. |

First off great thread. I M in the planing a parts collecting stag on converting a 84 R80RT into a ADV bike it will only be a dual purpose bike it will see some fire roads minor trails and street. Would like to find some info. It will be built in stages. Build in the winter and ride in the summer, etc. I M going this route because no funds to go out and get a true GS, every one seems to very proud of their bikes as they should be.
1. What shocks on a dual shock set up? 2. What is the simplest frok swap. Any advice welcome |
