Maybe give it "Honorary" Airhead status, after all, it has Airhead carbs and tank !

It's not my bike, I just found the add.

The seller says it is a 1150 engine and drivetrain in a R80S frame, fascinating.

Nice of you to say, igor.

Can you spot the PD in this photo?

How do you like the pegs though?
When I lived in Berlin I went to the Motobau shop to pick up my Sixo. Kai Liebisch, the owner, was working on an HPN with these pegs. Standing and sitting were perfect, so I bought the pegs before moving back to the U.S., and had Motobau fabricate bar clamps for Magura bars to match the other HPN's position. It is perfect sitting, perfect standing for me, 68" and 30" inseam.

The bad: The stock shifter doesn't work well. I extended it, then the throw was too long. I've got one from Siebenrock to try that has an adjustable linkage point. If that doesn't work, time to mill, rivet and weld.

Good gravy. I've been searching the web for a week for info on building a dakar special. And here's this thread right under my nose.

Here's the thing. R80 and 100GS seem to be getting harder to find. And if I found a good one I don't know if I could bring myself to mod it to get what I really want. Better to keep it in stock trim (maybe).

That being the case I'm thing of converting an R65. They seem to be cheaper and available. Also a 650 twin should be fine for an adventure bike with a bit less weight ? I understand that there was a 65GS available in Europe once upon a time but it doesn't seem to have ever set the world on fire ?

So give a BMer newb a tip will ya. Is an R65 a reasonable donor for a dirt special ? Any partucular year to look for ?

Tks.

a few years ago the winner of Heroes Legend was riding a BDM-special. It was an r65 engine, with r80 cylinders:

Takes a lot off work to do this right tough!
