It all depends on what time I get my arse out the door after I feed all the animals and secure them....I just double checked the weather and theres a GOD DAMN chance of snow on Friday and highs just hitting 40 degrees forecasted for Saturday WTF?! That's not highly unusual for this time of the year but all that nice weather last week has go me spoiled.

Wind Warning

Wow! That was like, the scariest thing, ever! I just did a 10 mile round trip to the reservoir and back. I was planning on picking up the tag, setting the new tag and picking up the HV tag while I was out...

F*$K THAT!

My first warning should have been the GINORMOUS box truck parked on the side of the road before the reservoir. The wind is unbearable. I was barely able to hold my bike up as I pulled to the side of the road to try and turn around. Forecast says 42 mph gusts...felt more like 60 at the clear cut open wind tunnel that the resevoir and the bridge over it make....Damn that was scary! I'm going to have to try to get my heart to stop beating so fast so I can calm down enough to drive my truck to work...

Tags still available but I wouldn't recommend anyone ride near there today...at least not anytime soon. The forecast says the gusts should slow as the day goes on...

That spot is SERIOUS when it comes to wind. I've gone through there in the winter when all the snow has been blown off of the ice, and drifts all over the road. I had it blow my Blazer right sideways one night . Kinda scarry when you know how far down it is before you'll stop rolling at the bottom of the dam.

Many communities and families were destroyed by the displacement(s).

Even more so today. Many in the 'skills either work for DEP or as one of the many contractors doing work for the DEC. But, those living nearby live with the fear that the dams might not hold. Not built very well to start and neglected for many years. Even today the DEC doesn't fill the Ashokan Res. to capacity out of fear the damn might fail.

I lived in "the shadow of the pepacton", and knew there was nothing I'd be able to do if I was home and the dam let loose. There would be an earthquake like rumble, and it would all be over. There are videos online that show the devastation when a dam like that goes. Scary!
