Watch here - Neil comes through just after the one minute mark!

Stage 9 is in the bag, by all accounts, the most difficult stage, technical, long and at the tail end of a grueling 4,480 km.

Overall

Stage 9, un - official results:

1 MARC COMA Red Bull Brema & Menichetti AMV ESP KTM 690
2 FELIPE AUGUSTO MIRANDA ZANOL Brasil Moto Tour BRA/MG Honda 450
3 KUBA PRZYGONSKI Casteu ELF Sherco POL KTM 690

35 NEIL TORBEN RINGDAHL Team Wild West Rally RSA Yamaha 450

All Team Wild West riders in.
Seems Neil has a probable broken foot....but he will start the stage tomorrow regardless... Dropped 1 position in the production class, currently 7th...hanging on and will start Stage 10!

Of the original 65 bikes, only 42 will start the final stage.

Hope it's a short stage, tough it out Neil!

Tomorrow's stage (10th)

10º dia (20/08, sexta-feira) - Sobral (CE) - Fortaleza (CE)
DI. 43 km
TE. 107 km
DF. 240 km

Some of the action that went down:

A final update:

Just spoke to Neil, with sirens wailing in the background, he was in an ambulance, on his way to hospital to have his foot attended to.

On a high from successfully finishing the Rally dos Sertoes (you read right..he made it to the end and crossed the finish line) he relived a last two days of high drama..

Going through a turn during stage 9, he drifted wide and crashed into a fence, a fence post smashed his foot into the footpeg, bending it up in the process. After about half an hour that felt like eternity, he pulled himself together, soldiered on and finished stage 9.

Last night, after he had a look at his foot, he got dressed for the next day, sleeping in his boots as he feared that the swelling would prevent him from putting it back on the next morning, and thus cut his mission short....a fear that was not unfounded when he pulled his boots off after stage 10, hundreds of kilometers further.

Stage 10 was described by Neil as the most horrendous stretch of fez fez like sand, cornering he had to put his foot out, with the resultant impact causing pain.

However..with 350 km to go, most of it special sections, he experienced uncharacteristic handling of his bike. Upon investigation, it turned out that his rear wheel bearings was completely shot, the axle was literally running on the sleeve. Carrying on regardless, he managed to finish the special stage.

Unfortunately, rally rules...you need to cross the finish line, not just finish the special sections.

With a hundred odd km liason section to go, he nursed his bike along...towards the end they had to do a section along a stunning beach.... when horror..his clutch completely fried, with 10km to go.

For a moment he saw his rally finish go up in smoke, fortunately sense and a cool head prevailed. Receiving aid from one of the 4X4's , the clutch was adjusted and he could once again make for that elusive finish line.

According to Neil the finish line was out of this world, a bevy of 12 South American beauties welcomed everybody home...

PS: a few km from the finish, Neil and two others got pulled over by the local force, for ..ahem..not displaying their numberplates.

Hey guys

Wow, thanks for all the comments and words of encouragement! Insidedirtrider, THANK YOU so much for updating .

I thought of the ADVRider and Wilddogs inmates a lot, especially when I broke my foot in the early part of stage 9. While I hung over the bike saddle dealing with the white pain I decided "There is no way Im going to let these guys down!".

I made it to the finish, but it was by far the hardest thing I have ever done, and there was a lot more drama too: I burnt out my clutch in the final liasson in the dunes, and got stopped by the cops along with about 15 other competitors for riding inroadworthy vehicles! They refused to let us continue. Talk about emotional overload. Anyway I got there in the end right now Im pretty tired, have been relaxing at a nice beach apartment Dave organised for the team.

I will update this thread with a detailed stage-by-stage report of my experiences and emotions as soon as I get my act together again, and there will be some movie footage and additional pics as well.

Thanks again for your great morale support. It is this kind of thing that makes racing so cool for a noob like me!
