Matt's musings

Would be nice after this to get into an unmolested original bike just to see the difference... datchew

Noble sentiments...optimism springs eternal!!!

As mere humans, we cannot afford unmolested original machinery.
Our lot is to deal with that pile of old German black junk...
Only Superhumans can afford the cost of returning said machines to their original state.
Upon return, machine shall never be ridden again, to preserve it's pristine "state".
The difference is, we are the new presevationers/ owners of these viable running motorcycles, charged with the task of figuring out how to keep them running daily...45 years after their date of manufacture, 60,000 miles after rolling off the showroom floor, owner #5, etc....
The unmolested bikes are in museums, we're left with worn out garbage, with provenance....and it's our job to make sure a lot of that survives so's our kids can ride em....
Our kids aren't gonna be reassembling piles of junk, into roadworthy bikes. They'll only be maintaining slingers and final drives and replacing silencers...
...but they'll be riding, and changing oils, kick starting and bamboozling the inspection guy for a new sticker....
...the way it should be

Would there be a good reason why my front end has a seemingly-random amount of washers on those 2 bolts holding the triple clamp in place on the headlight ears?

triple clamp is completely separate from the headlight ears. the ears have 2 bolts each that go to the earles fork.

I think I'm not getting what you're saying. Got a pic?

Oh yeah.. forgot that about a /2.

It's the 2 bolts with floppy washers in his pic.

I can take some more pics this weekend.

...2 cadmium plated bolts and washers, securing the triple tee to the Earles Forks. Also holding handlebar risers, mirrors, Wixom fairing?

I saw that there... how'd you get that klaxon so rusty? I'm considering it for a tap handle on my kegerator.
