Nichols Passage / Annette Island to the left.

We live in a rain forest... 160 inches of rain annually. So this is a good day.. It is not raining... just wet every where.

Hanz is happy!

This is good stuff... rollin rollin rollin...

We are at Rotary Beach... South Tongass Highway

yes they call it a highway.. remember we live in a roadless wilderness and have bridges to no where..

Almost everything here came or comes by boat. We have to take a boat to get to the airport.... yeah.

careful with the regrind..

Re: float pin seal taper

I looked at mine and there were worn groves in the taper..
so,, I took it upon my self to get the tapers out and used emery paper, then reseated them like lapping valves.. use a careful hand.. I would avoid a grinder..

upon completion... sucess.

I think I need to adjust the valves.. will not easily start when hot..
will let you know what I find when the covers come off.

Hard starting usually will be a symptom of the timing being a bit off...Got a timing light?

Hard to start when hot is the first sign of a coil starting to fail. Is yours the original coil or has it been replaced at some point? If you still have an original with shellaced windings, get rid of it. The more it breaks down, the worse it will get. It will start misfiring at speed and then KAPUT.And by the way, I'm jealous that you are out riding and I still have an empty frame.

Good words. I haven't had that happen, so I didn't know. I've got the plastic bound Emerald replacement. But I noticed it was breaking up a bit when I get the chance to wind her up...

Messin' with EzPass...

Any M tag issued for Motorcycles, automatically gives you a 50% discount at every toll.
Vehicle Type Code 136.
If your tag is not properly read at the booth, a pic is taken of your plate, and the pic is manually matched up to your plate/tag#'s and your account is charged accordingly. It can take up to a week before your acct. can be processed.
They don't want you to exceed your balance if all those tardy transactions get posted when you are low...
Other than that, they've no problem with you actually NOT having a tag...
This goes on. I'm takin' the Jeep to Newark Liberty to P/U someone last Monday.
"Get Receipts."
So I pull the tag and stick it in the glove box. We'll do it the old fashioned way! With Cash and Coin!
Get on in New Paltz, get ticket, at Harriman Plaza, pay cash, OK, 17 to the NJ Turnpike... stop to get ticket, and it says EZGO...won't give me the ticket? I go.
Hit Exit 14, Newark Airport, in and out no problem.
I truly believe there is no way to re access the NJTPK North from the airport. You can take the GSP N, or get shuffled to the GW Bridge, and then Henry Hudson North.. but NOT the Turnpike.
SO! The following Sunday morning, I'm shuffling the same celebrity BACK to Newark.
I hit the cash tolls at Harriman...17 to NJ TPK...I find the Non EZGO lane for the ticket...
The machine won't issue the ticket and shows EZPASS GO....
At this point I'm caving...
The tag in the glovebox is getting read anyway...just put the damn thing on and download the report later....it all shows up your acct. anyway!?
Drop my passenger, and see that truly, you must take the Parkway North from Newark to reaccess 17N, and the Thruway...
I still want those receipts. I take the tag off the windshield.
First toll....She looks at me.
You've got EZPASS...GO!
May I have a receipt? Can you still read the Tag?
Sure! She gives me the receipt...
Hmmmm.
Hit the New Paltz exit...EZPASS still in glovebox.... May I have a receipt please?
The Toll Booth Attendant gives me a REALLY dirty look... You've GOT ezpass...(Why did you make me print out that receipt?}
So I can submit my expense report for this trip tomorrow...dickwad?????
He prints it...
I cruze to the Mid Hudson Bridge...tag's back on. I go to the Slow and Retarded Lane, to get my paper receipt.
Guy looks at me... go ahead, you've got EZ Pass....
But I need a receipt!?
Can't do it, EZ pass already processed the transaction...
That's great, can you print me a paper receipt?
No...
Whaddya mean NO?
I physically cannot print you out a receipt, because you used EZPass...
But the last 2 attendants could?????
Have A Nice Day sir!
I'm just laffing at this point! Every toll both looked at me funny, charged me a different way and interpreted our transaction in a distinct fashion.
I get home. Shakin' my head.
I pull out the receipts I DO have, and they hold ALL the information as to my location, at what time it was processed, parties involved...
....And there are no charges listed on the receipts.
I'm gonna have to access My Account to get the info, no matter what!
I try logging in, and they've forgotten my password reset from yesterday

Barn find!

Just wanted to share a story and hopefully not bore you so here it goes.
When I saw the listing for a BMC motorcycle I had to take a look.
Bingo, a '66 R60 that belonged to Grandpa needed a new home. Even though I was
850 miles away there is no way I could leave this alone. It's 10:30P and there
was a phone number to call. I resisted the urge to call and emailed instead. You
never know.
Next morning I check my email as usual before heading to the salt mines and the
owner had just emailed @ 7:15 am. Well, if he's emailing that early I'm calling!
He was surprised that this old bike had gotten such interest but since I was
the first to contact him I was first in line!
How many miles?
"It says 500 so it must be over 100K"
What are the chances that Grandpa rode 100K? I ask him to check a couple of
things for me when you get home from work and let me know.
He calls back that night to tell me that the trip meter said 500 and the
odometer shows 5900! Oh, and if you want to save yourself the trip there are
people lining up locally offering $500 more.
I'll take it. Road Trip! Here's some pics. I gave it a bath and it cleaned up
pretty good. I have a bet with my neighbor that it's going to fire up once I go through everything. Enjoy.

Handle Bars and Hot Hard Starting.

The bars are from my stock R75/7.. I had to switch the bars when I installed the Krauser fairing.

I do prefer the sport bars.. I may put them back on.

Regarding the electrics.. all new and overhauled or replaced.

I only have about 5 hours of riding time on the coil.. It is new.

I did a top down tune-up on Hanz... but we are blowing a gale here so no testing today..

Here is a shot of the electrics system..

great find. I wish great pain upon they who try to bid higher to skip the original caller on a bike purchase. Glad the old man stuck to his guns.

Love those barn find stories.

Well HELL Man, You've got no sparkplug wires on the thing! Of Course it's gonna be hard starting!

I'm under the impression that there aren't too many hours on Hanz since rebuild/reassembly? I found things tended to loosen, and tolerances and gaps changed for a while, [first 1000 miles?] until it all settled together...
I'd check the points and timing again, make sure all those connections on the mag and generator are snug, check the 13mm bolts holding on the carbs, valve lash, head bolts (127 ft.lbs). If you haven't already...
Are your plugs black or grey?
VERY IMPORTANT! Check the 4 10mm bolts securing the driveshaft UJoint to the tranny output. They always seem to loosen and can absolutely ruin your day...

Nice work Goomicoo! Is this your first Slash 2?
Please inspect all fluids seperately as you change them for telltale bits. Dump in a fresh paint liner and inspect it sunlight for "brassy sheen".
Check the filter in the petcock for rusty crud. Oh wait, there's no tank, my bad...
Get a compression test on it first thing if you can.
What is the serial number on the steering head and on the motor?
Ask any questions you want here.
There's a lot of folks here that want to see you succeed!
