right now im working on it, 4th oversize pistons (74.00 mm) i blew the right cylinder on the highway ..
It appears i have been driving around with wrong pistons, from an R60 (no /2). those had longer conrods and shorter pistons (and also a flatter piston head for only 6.5 instead of 7.5 com.).

so i had too little compression, easy to kickstart but no power :)
I'll try to post some pics.
forgive the bad english, im from holland ;) i do understand german dough so if anybody needs some (technical) bmw information translated..

by the way i really like those vintage side cases!

Hello Nilzz!
I've a niece & her family who live in the Netherlands.... I'd like to visit with them someday....
Your English is better than some of the Americans on this forum....
Short reach plugs don't necessarily mean "bad" head.....
It was a bad batch of alloy that "melted" around the plug holes, etc., giving rise to "butterheads".....
I had one short reach and one long reach head on the bike, when I got it.
It ran.....the same heads now match....long reach, or LK.....
That subject will be covered later.....
I've not heard of a 4th over...I thought it stopped at 3rd over.....
But I DO know what you mean about German "dough"....
In the States, these bikes are expensive to renovate....
Sounds like you have a basket of poisonous snakes there!

Post some images!

thank you dane,

I've had problems with my cylinder heads in the past, cracked spark plug thread and sunken valve seats. having those fixed the pistons got too much compression so that's when they blew..

see also the difference in height.. R60 conrod is 130mm, /2 is 125mm i believe.

right now im working on the small-end (bronze) bushings, after pressing them in the conrod they have to be bored to the right size before you can place the pistons.

this document was very helpful for me

Same story with my Model A.

If you're takin' the rods to a shop, bring the wrist pin and piston.

Dunlop F11?

So when I got the bike, she had a set of worn out Chen Shings, and I put 5000 miles on them before Rebuild....
After Rebuild, she got a matched set of Bridgestone S11 "Spitfires". I just changed the rear after 11,000 miles.
I found a set of clearance Dunlop F11 "Gold Seal". $146 retail, normally sold for $60 - $70... on sale for $25 ea. "Get 'em off the floor!" So I did.
I didn't notice much difference, but my Co-rider did....
Gee...the rear end doesn't seem so..."waggly..."
"Waggly?.......?
That's great news...I'm all in favor of a firmer rear end.....
I'M TALKING ABOUT A STIFFER SIDEWALL CONSTRUCTION HERE!!!!!!!!

After about 1000 miles, I'm checking the tire back there and I'm seein' that:

There ain't that much left....
There might not have been that much center tread to begin with...
The things' barely broken in, how can it be worn out?

Anybody here have any 'xperience with these tires?

What do YOU run???

Good question....
The Dunlop website only lists a 4.00 x 18 rear in the K70....the rest are 19's

Ya, bummer indeed because they are so cheap!!! My 2nd choice was the Metzler block C's which are super expensive, so instead I put the TKC-80's on. They're very good at everything on my GS, and they seem to fit the bike.

I hope I can catch up with you someday Dave and see your bike. One of my favorites.
