Last year i bought a pair of Gerbings G3 Gloves...very warm and I havent even wired them into the bike...still have to buy the harness and 'troller...about the only time my hands get really cold is when the temps get below 40*...If they move to greensboro I'll ride in to take a tour and get the other stuff i need.

Cold Weather Riding

Being a country boy from way up North, I follow the Adirondacks tag-o-Rama thread.

Some of the riding they do in the winter shows that the right gear does make a difference!!

That's zactly why I live in the SOUTH! Ridin in snow is only fun till the wheels and chain fill up with the stuff.

Back to the tag.. Good placement! I like BJ's

It wasn't that cold Saturday! I rode down to New Bern without any electric heated gear!

But it will be THAT cold this week. Not much riding going to happen this week for me! Busy anyhow.....

The cold..

Saturday day was nice, but once the sun went down it was pretty chilly. I was thankful for heated grips.

I didn't see any live deer (but plenty of dead ones) until I was a mile from my house. On the Edwards Mill Extension, I rode right between two 4-point bucks... one on the median and one on the east side of the road. I was only doing 40 at the time, thankfully.

It was 39 this morning, but a 20 minute commute makes it bearable with a roadcrafter and balacava.

Yeah, I've spent more time gearing up for an RTP commute, than I probably spent riding to work or home again! And many times, I was dripping sweat by the time I got geared up and got the bike started and warmed up! Some days I wondered why I bothered! I was leaving New Bern yesterday, leaving my friends house to head back to Raleigh. As we were standing in his garage, and I was suiting up, he said "aren't you hot" to which I replied, I'm burning up standing here, but will be comfortable once I get moving.

Dead deer are everywhere! I bet I saw 20+ between my house and New Bern. I think I smelled about 50! The stench of roadkill was almost as powerful as all of the hog farms down 70hwy!

Next few mornings are likely to be chilly. Fortunately, I've got about 5 miles each way...

That doesn't even give your grips a chance to heat up!

Saw one report that there's even a chance of a passing snow flurry tomorrow afternoon.

We went on a dual sport ride around Holly Springs a couple winters ago, and got caught in some snow. Pretty and interesting, but didn't affect our ride.
Only pic I have of that day. We have some more somewhere with more on the ground later.

At the house one day a year or two ago...

A year or two before that....

Now go rescue the NC tag from the hilbillies. They are about to get snowed in for winter! And that tag moves as fast as molasses in January!
