Barbeque Lodge on Capital?

No thanks. I'd rather eat Smithfields!

Old Time BBQ on Hillsborough St is one of my faves in this area.

That's what I used to think about Barbecue Lodge. Hadn't been there in years. Stopped by there about a year ago and was very surprised. Go at lunch during the week. Don't go for dinner and don't go on the weekend. Trust me on this one.

I'd sooner get a McRib than go to Smithfields....

I was trying to decide if I should use the file pic of Holdens or Ole Time Barbecue... had both... Figured Holden's was a better ride for most folks even if it is some of the worst barbecue I've had in years. Agreed on the food at Ole Time.

all these bad places to eat...its like you gotta have a list of places to avoid...LOL havent eaten any good Q of late...yesterday at the Carolina Billiards(bar) in Wison after toy Run they served some Q but it had tough pcs of the skin mixed in it and the spicy vinegar was too strong....edible ofc but not the best i've ever had.
BTW I've ridden to Moonshine IL for a Hamburger...Moonburger to be exact...

Kings in Kinston is good, and I like the McCalls in Goldsboro.

I haven't had Holden's in many years. I think I ate there once at least 10 years ago. Used to like The Forks at the end of Falls of Neuse Rd years ago.

Old Time got crappy years ago, enough that we quit going. We had really greasy, bad BBQ there twice in a row and quit going. I hadn't been in years until about a year ago. I've been one more time recently, and think it's pretty good.

Honestly, I've never been to the "Lodge". I had been told by a lot of people, that it was disgusting. And I used to frequently see them on the "5 on Your Side" restaurant ratings segment, getting low scores. So I developed an ingrained aversion to the place. BBQ seems like one of those things that you'd have to try hard to screw up. And yet, a lot of places do so very well....screw it up!

I've cooked one pig in my life. I had a pig picking at my house several years ago, and thought it turned out VERY well. But to be honest, I've never had bad "Q" at someone's private "pig picking".

BBQ Barn? I pass that place every Wednesday! Never knew if it was good or not, have not tried it. Yet. I take classes right across the street at VGCC.

Don't think the drive through was supposed to be for light aircraft...
