After meeting Jo (jryden), Ben (Ben99r1), and Mark(did anyone catch his ID?), we hit the road and pulled over to take a break somewhere between 395 and Trona.

After the break, Mark went to check out the pinnacles while the rest of us stopped in Trona for gas then lunch. From there, we rode on and I had to stop for my first view of the valley.

Ben

Jo being bad

From there, we rode to check out the kilns in wildrose canyon. I think lunch affected Ben and Jo's bikes because they decided to take a nap.

The kilns:

Once we made it to camp, Jo and I hit the bar across the street and guzzled a few pints of beer. By the time we were done, it was time to setup camp, eat, and set fire to things

Here are some of the Saturday noobies (I really don't think there were more than 2 noobies in the group!) waiting for Joel's instructions.

Jimmy entertaining to group with some of the best Huell Howser impersonations I've heard.

I should have had what Jo had for lunch. He hauled ass afterwards while my bike and I had an episode of narcolepsy

I think someone pissed Cathy off

Titus Canyon was really tough for me that afternoon. I must have dropped the bike 5 times on seemingly easy terrain. Once out of Titus and the awful road construction, the group hauled ass back to camp. I pulled over to take some shots since the afternoon light was just perfect.

I think Ben's smile sums it up. GREAT WEEKEND!

So when's the next "noobie" event?

I was SO frustrated, the last thing I wanted to do was bust out the rig and take pictures. Knowing that they're just part of the learning experience, I'll try next time

I think I saw a vein popping after your get-off just before we hit the pavement to go to Beatty Well it was either a vein or your ankle

Conintuing the RR of the Saturday AVern Ride...

We left Crankshaft junction continuing east on Big Pine Death Valley Road until hitting the junction with South Eureka Road, then turned south to Eureka Dunes where we stopped for lunch. I thought I took some pics here, but the camera yielded nothing - oh well.

After a brief eat and drink break, we continued on past the dunes to the steps leading up to Steel Pass. There's some pretty soft sand between the dunes and the steps, and apparently a few drops occurred but that happened behind me, so I didn't get any pics.

At the steps, we were contemplating whether to continue over Steel Pass, or continue on the big loop east towards Big Pine. DSM8 and Evil Dave ended up going up the steps and over Steel Pass, while the rest of us backtracked to the Big Pine Death Valley Road and continued east.

At the steps, TravelToad road his big KTM up and down the steps to show us how easy it was - and he definitely made it look easy...

Here's Dave making his way up...and on his way to the Nudie Springs!

The rest of backtracked to head out to Big Pine (and more gas). I stopped at the Dunes, and this time my camera apparently worked and I got my pic of the big sand dune...

Here comes the other two GS's (Avern and suvslayer) finishing up the sandy section back to the dunes...

Avern is stylin'...

JAB...

RSCE...

We rode out east to Big Pine. It got damn cold going over whatever pass you cross on the way to Big Pine. We filled our thirsty tanks in Big Pine, and then headed south on 395. Just before Lone Pine, we headed to the west side of 395 for some dirt that took us into the Alabama Hills. Apparently this was a famous area for western movies to be made, and it is stunning scenery!

My pics just don't do this area any justice at all, but it's really a pretty area...

By this time, the light was getting thin and we slabbed it back to Panamint Springs. I think we arrived back at camp at about 8pm. So it was a long (+300 miles) but thoroughly enjoyable ADV ride. Thanks AVern!

Larry, you guys need to start a thread of your own apart from this one called "TOURING Death Valley and surroundings"!
