Well fellers, that does look like quite the ride.
When in my FJ, I love the rocks. Looks like a great place to take the truck.

But on a bike, I HATE big rocks like that. Looks like a lot of work...not that I mind work-that's where the fun usually is. But those rocks...ouch.

Glad no one lost anything important (like ur nuts).

Hey aj.....you could order the cycra triple tree mounts for your handguards. I think your bike would require the front mount....not the side mount. They are rock solid.

Highway Dept finally called me back.
Said it wasn't them who dug the hole and dumped the crap.

Wow.
I hate to even comment on the choice of rides, seeing as life has kept me from riding with you all for too long...

BUT....Just because you can....Doesn't mean you should.

Ok....I'm just jealous.

Working on rejoining soon,
Gil

Love it.

Don't let this ride spook some of ya'll away from the Sequatchie area.

We were following an old GPS track.
That was a good run, just not for the bikes we were on.
Better suited for 4 wheelers, in fact it was a guy on a 4 wheeler that made the track.

I'm pretty sure there are other "very well travelled" roads in the gulfs, and I'm pretty sure where they are, we just didn't choose one.

Knowing what we know now (where not to go), I'm sure TR, AJ and TK will be back (WP is moving away).
We'll just take different lines.

Will be sure to report back "accurately" what type if bikes / riders Sequatchie is suited for.

TK and I personally can't wait to go back. And deep down, I know TR and AJ will be back as long as we don't take that same road

I will go back...

I don't leave until the end of AUG....Would be a better ride when it was a little cooler out....

Just need to keep better track of time... water,.... food..... I think if we had taken a break between the first run and the second it would have made life a little easier. I think we were just pushing a little too hard trying to get that "LAST Half Mile" LOL

Was a good time.... I feel that I learned something from it... I think that mostly you have to attack the rocks.... speed=distance as TK says... you just have to hang on and go. If it weren't for crossing the creek beds it wouldn't have been bad. Even the long rock gardens were not too bad... Try and maintain some speed, let the suspension do its job, look ahead and not down... there is nothing you can do about that rock you are about to hit... just hit it and go.....

I think that by the end of the day I was mind F'ed and just plain exhausted..... the true "Last Half mile wasn't bad at all....

I know I was smoked on the ride and was probably the one that caused us to take all the breaks... I know that cardio/endurance training needs to be high on my list of things to work on..... That would have helped a lot too....

Once I get my shock fixed I would go again...

AH HA . . . . .another update. The highway dept. director called me. In fact the county DID place the barracades in the road. He said they always have a lot of complaints from folks who live by the barracades of people getting stuck and then coming an knockin on their doors.

In fact he said "we put those there because we just had a guy in a furniture delivery truck that had a GPS that told him to go that way and he got stuck in that real deep part".........Idoit.

He hinted at how people of horses and 4 wheelers go thru there all the time. I thought he was hinting that the road isn't officially closed to going through.....we're just trying to keep vehicles out.

At the end of the call I asked him: "So, is that road officially closed by the county or is it OK to go on through as long as you can get yourself unstuck and you don't bother the neighbors?"

He said " uh huh, that's fine ".

His name is Ronald Coats.....that's probably a name we need to burn into our minds.
"Well we spoke with Ron Coats about it and he said it was fine to go on through. It's not officially closed"

This was a good learning ride. When WP was laying in the creek it hit me that we were in over our heads with the heat. I couldn't have ridden much longer stretches b/c my arms were cramping. I stuck my head in the water to cool off ever chance I got after that point. Then I started what if'ing …injury…critical break down….day light… another trail blockage. We were 4 hours in and I remember some steep hills that I did know if I could return the way I came.

One thing for sure, fuel was not a problem with WP super tanker. So we had that going for us.
