Hey guys... I was in NC too this weekend.. I went to Uwharrie OHV area near Troy, NC.

I got a new toy... a 96KLX650r... man that thing is SWEET!!!!!

Muuchoo power and about 100+ #s lighter than the KLR... man what a difference.... I really like this bike.. .too bad that the aftermarket is very weak for it... but wow... what a bike.

What part of NC were you in IHF? We need to all do an NC ride/trip one of these days. I hope to move back there one of these days. I grew up just south of Asheville and once the mountains are in your blood its hard to get them out! WParkinson, how is Uwharrie? Worth the trip?

Uwharrie is pretty cool... bigger than Turkey bay and about as rocky. There are some pertty serious rocks to deal with. Ran up on some pretty serious areas that I wasn't prepared for... Thankfully the KLX was up for the job where the KLR would have been lacking. If you are in NC and get the chance to go it would be cool but there are better places to ride in the western part of NC.... It was the hardest 30 miles I ever have done.

When I get back to NC I am only about an hour from URE.. as we call it...

I am going to be doing ride in the MTNs of NC Labor Day weekend. I have put together about 400 miles of dirt and paved roads.. Its going to be a true Dual Sport ride.

We are planning to camp out Friday, Sat, and Sunday nights and head back Monday.

So far I have about 7 folks giong.... I haven't really put it out because I am trying to keep it low key because my routes are untested and would hate to have a shitload of people show up and it turns out to be crap...

We shall see...

It would be cool if it turns into something....

I rode out of Brevard, NC (where I grew up). There is an entrance into Pisgah National Forest in Brevard and there are gravel and fire roads throughout. Linked a bunch of pavement and dirt for about 60 miles of beautiful riding. Ended up on what I think is one of the best paved roads I have ever ridden on, hwy 215, which crosses the blue ridge parkway. Made me homesick it was so gorgeous.

Good call....yes, it was a great bike for this ride. The only thing I wish about that bike is....it had a 6th gear. I guess I could put a smaller sprocket on the back too.

It just seems to like to cruise around 53-55 mph. On long road stretches I sure wish I could go faster. Granted, I could go faster, but I hate ringing the motor out like that.

If any of you guys ever think about going rididng up there, let me know. I'm starting to know a "little" about the area.

Hey guys.....have any of ya'll either ridden or organized a poker run?

Our sales offices in Goodlettsville wants to try an organize one as a fundraiser. None of them really know much about biking, so I offered to help.

If you have any suggestions, warnings, thoughts, etc.. please let me know. Shoot me a PM and hopefully we can talk on the phone.

I know the basic premises: starting point, stops along the way, hand out playing cards, finish point, laying out the route, volunteers, insurance, indemnification, door prizes...what else?

Thanks for any help....
