I see lots of people getting new bikes this summer. I have been saying that between the DRZ and the Dakar that I had all my bases covered and was perfectly content with just two bikes.

Then, my old friend Ike decides to turn loose of his stable as he is getting on in years and offers me this. I could not refuse. He is the same guy that R2L got his RZ350 from.

It's a little ragged around the edges but will make a good addition to the garage.

And here is pic of Ike. The Hodaka was for sale too, but already spoken for.

What a super lucky break.
Don't want to be a downer but - you're right, that could have been a LOT worse.
I love watching deer but have truly learned to fear them when riding.

I was riding woods once and one jumped across the front of me right at face level.
He was so close that I swear I could see the individual hairs.
It took me a few seconds to figure out "what the he!! was that?!"
Come on - tell it like it was...that was me running circles around you

Sweet! I've always really liked those, I'd love to own own some day.

Two years ago, My buddy Matt and I spent about 10-15 weekends on the Natchez Trace taking photographs of motorcycles, seeing if there was enough demand to actually get a Killboy-styled business off the ground (there wasn't). I snapped one of Ike on the Transalp!

Nice looking ride SS!

And as for that Hodaka...if the speaker of who it's spoken for falls through I WILL take that bike.

And BTW, That Metal Restore is doing AMAZING tricks to the rusty tank. Stuff is amazing. Wish I'd have taken before pics. The after pics make the inside of that tank look like new! A nice find, for sure.
The spare tank is VERY rusty. I'll try and get some before/after pics there.

What can we ever do to get the Japan makers give us some love again. After decades of the same old (not crap) just same old stuff with new stickers and one or two exceptions and teasers. Yamaha gives us the diametric opposite of an XT225/250, Honda gives us a 700cc scooter/hybrid with 45hp and redline just faster than the Old No. 7, Suzuki gives us another carbon copy (but in a brilliant battleship grey, this time), and Kawi..well, they're trying but they're obsessed with the street sweepers.

Good googly-moogly, what if the minds behind the NX had access to today's tech. I know the KTMs are top shelf but dang...how about some variety.

I do NOT like this developing trend to build one mediocre chassis with 2 or three versions of plastic to snap on it.

Anybody riding tomorrow? I spent the day clearing a mountain bike trail and then riding the mountain bike. I'll sleep well tonight. Yard work in the AM and then a M/C ride somewhere.

Good News / Bad News

Well...I got the RZ going today.
Finally got the tank cleaned up, rinsed out and fueled up. 3rd kick, ring-ding-ding-a-dinggggggg...
Then the petcock seemed not to work correctly.. So I kept kicking and left a lot of skin on the foot peg. OUCH! (Damn that hurts.) Shorts, flip flops and kick starters...bad mix.
Left the petcock on 'prime' to keep her running.
The inaugural ride was quite fun. Good bottom end, revs nice, sounds phenomenal going up through the gears. Feels race-track-like. Yummm!
Just 'going around the block' in shorts, helmet, t-shoes, t-shirt, etc...
Got a little to frisky on old tires. This bike seems to have it out for me.
Now I have a little more work to do to than before. Yep.
Low-side. Ug.
I'm hear to tell you 90 degree corner, 35-40 mph, old rubber, dressed as described as above = ouch.
My right side is pretty rashed-up. Knee, forearm, wrist, upper arm, shoulder, helmet...
Bent a few things on the right side of the bike. Turn sig stalk, rear brake pedal, front brake lever, mirror rash, bar end, silencer cover, maybe more. Darnit!
Oh well, getting the demons out early. Going to be one FUN bike, I can already tell.
