Trip to Michigan

Hey guys, I have been dual sporting it up all around my buddy's cottage in Northern Michigan the last week and a half! Def was some fun riding.

He has a 1994 XR250L up there, I rode it around a little bit to finally feel what it's like to ride a bike in the dirt that is not a 650cc Pig...it definitely is a lot less physically strenuous/scary because you can just kick it up easily....

Yeah there was a LOT of nasty sand. Like just sandbox stuff, picture doesn't do it justice...I have never really ridden in it before and it was a learning experience getting comfortable in it.

Not more than 15 minutes after taking the bike out of my truck and taking off down a trail, met first sand trap going wayyyy too fast and ate it hard. Bent the stock DR650 bars pretty bad (about time with all my crashes.....had to slightly bend them back to even get them off). Found a shop down the road and put some Marshall aluminum bars on instead the next day.

All in all I got a LOT better at riding in dirt/slippery surfaces there (I learned so weight the outside and spin/slide the rear tire around the turn finally out of necessity and now its 4x as fun to ride dirt). Can't wait to hit some trails up in TN again!

From my couch, that sand looks yummy. Any time I can see individual knob tracks its a good sign. That being said, there is not so yummy sand, like Croom OHV park in FL or most anything in NM,UT or AZ. That Michigan terrain looks mighty fun.

That was definitely not the worst of it, just some kind of slightly sandy area where I was like "Oh wait I should get a picture of this!"....the crappier stuff I was too busy trying not to face plant again Luckily it rained the last 2 days I was there and it wasn't as bad.

Meh, when you live in Florida, all you have to ride on is sand. The only thing you have to worry about is how deep it will be.

But... once you get the hang of it, it's easy.

Don't matter to me, I have a ~250 mile section of the tEt mapped on my GPS to hit (Elizabethtown KY to Jellico TN) unless I can find a better local ride.

Edit: looks like heavy rains Thurs, may stick to the street or easy gravel
