From where I was, I saw Rod lifting his legs up in the air as he crossed one of creeks, that show me right there how good of rider he is, and it was not an easy crossing, deep water, he kept his balance and charged on! No 2nd thoughts about it !!
Again, it was a beautiful day , fun ride and a great group !!
Cheers !!

Thanks guys; you may be giving my skills way too much credit If any one would like to follow my build you can click on the MPS(multi purpose sportster) link in my signature. My blog is there as well; feel free to read about the Hellcat and a few of my other interests.

Sunday's ride really helped me sort out the suspension changes I made and still plan to make. I am currently running Progressive 413's on the rear(couldn't be happier with the performance; still need to be dialed in a bit) and am currently running stock springs on the front. I had planned to put Progressive heavy duty's up there, but have changed my mind. I'll be installing the stock length Progressives instead; run them awhile, then if needed, will install Ricor Intiminators(dampers). All in due time with lot's more off road test runs.

Here is a quote from a post I made in my build thread Sunday night after the day's ride, sums things up a bit:

Quote:
Got to put the MPS to it's first test; took it on a Hickman Co. ride with some inmates today. The 413's were exceptional and the Firestone shoes were definitely up to the task. Had some good pavement and twisty's; lots of dirt, gravel, mud and 4 or 5 water crossings. Very pleased with the performance so far! The stock forks had a tendency to bottom out; which would make the front end slide on occasion. Should see that diminish once I get the ………. Progressive springs installed.

Ground clearance was no problem. In fact, coupled with the lower seat height of the sporty(compared to the taller bikes) I had a much easier time with control via touching down than some of the others did. The pegs were also a success; no slipping and my boots always had a firm purchase. All in all a very good first test run.

The sportster is a far more capable ride than many are willing to admit too. I believe the primary reason is, HD started painting the sportster into a tight corner about 20 years ago(to satisfy it's perceived customer base). The Motor Co's self inflicted, myopic view, of the Sportster has created such a bias that it has ultimately sold the platform short. It's a real shame. There was a time when it didn't use to be that way. JMO
Thanks for all the support ……. hopefully we'll make a few more believers in the "dark side" before it's all said and done

Best regards

Rod

Good man... glad to see your still at it.... Haven't been doing much ADVing as of late... these flat lands here in eastern NC dont offer much in the way of fun riding. Now I have a new baby girl to look after I probably won't get much of a chance to do a whole lot.
