Very nice pictures and report.

We circumnavigated Tasmania about 10 years ago in a car and your shots of Strahan and the steam train brought back a flood of memories. We'd like to return and motorcycle around the island.

Three of us did this ride in Jan 2010 and it was a combination of good and bad, lots of good dirt from Braidwood and then we got to Nerriga. It was hot and we were tired so we sat and had a beer in the pub. Met two guys (father and son) and the sons girlfriend/wife... after about 15 minutes the son runs out of the pub with the father right behind. We watched them start to fight in the middle of the road about 100m back towards Braidwood and when they came back to the pub they both had big scratches on their faces from where they were beating each other up (against the road surface)..... it was all about whether or not the son should smoke around the woman who was pregnant (son yes, father no).

We left and managed to get stuck behind a load of cars that did anywhere from 5kph to 40kph for the next 40klms.....

Took the shine off a great ride (although having one of the bikes fall over and do damage to itself in Braidwood was another low spot).

Once this road is finished it will still be 'ok' but it will be a loss..... do it while you can.
