How true, even a McRib sandwich would taste good.

I took !-30 on a Sunday and thought it was a pleasant ride, as far as interstate goes. Anyway, there is still Q at the 162 exit to look forward to. I'm sure there is a Micky Ds along here also if you have a strong stomach and are on a tight budget. I do like their senior coffee.Yum.

Gill's in Ellinger, Texas

It's the last tiny little shack on the south side of town. Best ribs that I have ever tried. She is only open on the weekend and then only if she still has food. It is not uncommon for the local power plant to buy her out at one time. When she is closed, try Hruska's for a burger as a consolation.

Probably too late but Wild Horse Mountain Q is about 3 miles south of I-40 on US-59. The ribs are the tenderloin end and the chopped brisket is the real deal. They've got jalapeño sausage too. The sliced brisket is a little dry. Closed on Mondays. They've got more pictures of C&W stars than a Willie Nelson benefit.

If Macs had a Mcrib and beans combo I might be tempted. I'll have mine with a ear of sweetcorn also please. Don't forget the sweet tea. That would cost you about fifteen bucks at Rudys.

Might take more than 1 Shiner to wash down a McRib.

ssdan & Hammond's

The opinions expressed here on QUEST may not necessarily reflect the views of others who have eaten at Hammond's & really enjoyed it..... (sorry dan)

My ribs & brisket child's plate ($7.50) was pretty tasty. Ribs maybe not quite as good as Loco's & definately not as plentiful. Brisket similar in taste & same quantity differences. (the sauce at both places doesn't do much for me either) The onion rings are always crispy & just right (different batter than Loco but still good) Beans are ....well beans...ok but need work in the taste dept.

However...I might also add that...I HAVE had a couple of SO SO BBQ plates at times there too. ...More good times than bad though DEFINATELY

...& FINALLY THE COCONUT PIE !!!!!!!!!!! YEAH BABY !!!!!!!!!! ALMOST $5 A SLICE (BIG ONE) & WORTH EVERY PENNY !!!!!! (the peanut butter pie is GREAT too!!! + they warm up the pecan pie for ya.....

Hammond's is in Glen Rose on 67.

Speaking of pie, if you are ever riding through Mt. Calm Texas on Highway 31 Northeast of Waco/Southwest of Corsicana, stop at Dixie's Little Cafe for some of her fresh made fried pies (or regular pies). They were big hits this past Saturday when I took a bag to Crooked Creek Off-Road Park (4 miles away). I can't eat sugar but they drew raves from those who can.
