Original CLEM MIKESKA'S in Temple

I stopped by the Clem Mikeska's in Belton a while back & had a BBQ Tater since I wasn't too hungry.....Wasn't impressed.

Today,I followed the recommendation of ^%@# and *#$+ to go to the original location on 57th & Ave M in Temple (the names were changed to protect their inner sense) Both said that the brisket & sausage were great...the ribs not so much.

Here's my recommendation.....

Water ....8.5
New building 9.0 tastefully done....
Actually...the sausage was kinda tasty 7.5

....It's just that everything got cold rather quickly. (I sampled most of the different meats they had cept turkey, ham & chicken)...sides were just ok.
I remember eating at the original Mikeska's location back in the 80s....just didn't remember what it was like......Now I do

There was no wait the one and only time I was at Mikeska's. It was ok... Sometimes Rudys in Leon Springs has a lttle wait. I can live with that. Six more weeks until my BBQ/blue bonnet tour. Hard 8 will probably be my first stop.

I do not have much good to say about Mikeska's BBQ...I personally will not rate the place after having subjected my poor palate to thier abuse on several previous occaisions...I really wonder how they stay in business

I ate at Hard 8 a few weeks ago. I got some brisket and I wasn't too impressed. I've had better there in the past, so maybe it was just an off day. BBQ is challenging enough to cook that it is pretty easy to mess up. The company was good so I was more focused on that.

Anyway, I hope they're back on their "A" game when you get there.

I don't think my Mikeska's visit was like your Hard 8 "off" day . Every different piece of meat was just so-so...cept for the sausage which was tasty.

I think I've figured Hard Eight out. The sirloin, the porkchop, and the shrimp or chicken doodles.

I'll agree on the pork chop for sure - its tasty! Never had the others 'cause usually I can't afford much else but the 2 lb, $15 pork chop.

Yep, got to order the house speciality at each place you go.

It was good when I ate there with you and TXJames at his old location.

But that's a rarity! Most places are known for something and the rest of the choices are just ok.

I need to try their pork chop. But normally I'll go to Ranch House on Fri or Sat night for that. It's cheaper there too.

And preferably the shrimp things over the chicken.

When at the Ranch House in Glen Rose mention you know Donovan. I like there food and am friends of Rocky & Wren-the owners. They have a great RIb - Eye cooked over Mesquite on the week-ends. Hard to beat.

Rocky and Wren know us by name. We used to eat there way to often. Tell Rocky that Larry said he'd eat there more if she'd make her amazing coconut cream pie again. The latter should jog her memory.

Wren does cook an EXCELLENT steak.
