Am I the onliest NT in NE Colorado?
Am I the only NT rider in Colorado? If not, come out of lurk mode and let me know who you are and where you are!
I picked my bike up this morning and rolled out of the dealership at about noon. I was told to ride the bike like I wanted to, but not to hold the same speed for very long and not to pin it at redline. So, came home the 78 miles from Sun Honda/Kawasaki/Harley to Fort Morgan. It was a good ride -- windy enough to know that the NT is going to handle the prairie winds as well as the Concours; long enough to make me glad that I've got bar risers and peg lowerers enroute. My old feeble right leg just won't comfortably bend quite that far. (It's the one that's had three artificial knees stuck in it...sequentially, not simultaneously.) I was impressed with acceleration, not bothered by vibration (it's way smoother than the last Honda twin I had, my old GL650 Silverwing), enjoyed the way it handles, and thought that it had a better ride over bumps and expansion joints than the Concours. I wish the kickstand tang was in a place that I could more easily fit my foot into, although I'm getting more used to it. It's way, way, WAY easier to get up onto the centerstand than the Concours. It not only popped right up, it nearly popped right over me. Gas mileage was showing 48.9 avg from Denver, but I understand that the computer is optomistic. The seat was comfortable -- I may be able to avoid the expense of a custom saddle. I enjoyed having a lower seating position than I do on my Concours (which has a Russell Day-Long that probably lifts me up between an inch and two inches higher. I can actually flatfoot the NT. I like the silver color although my wife thinks it looks like a toy. Well... maybe to her, but to me it looks like a serious sport-touring machine. I've got bunches of stuff in the hands of the USPS and UPS. I'm looking forward to getting all that stuff on board. I'm probably going to let the dealer do the 600 mi service next week. Pictures were taken. How do I post them to the list, or do I need to put them somewhere else and then post a link? Later!

Hey Phil,
Good to "see" you here. I remember you from the COG forum. I sold my old Connie to Gary Murphy years ago. I have been through a Yamaha FZ6 and a BMW R1100R since then. Now I am riding a Vstrom 1000. I love it like I loved the Connie, and I expect to keep it long enough to wear it out. The only problem - it's a bit tall for a pudgy little fat man. I hope you enjoy your NT700. That is a really sweet bike. I was over at the Honda shop today checking it out. Very nice. I like the way it feels. Much easier to get on and off than the big Strom. Yeah you will need to host your pics somewhere else and then link to them. I use both webshots and smugmug. SM is nicer (no pop ups!) but you have to pay for it. I did it because as I undertand it SM is owned by the same people who own advrider, and I enjoy this forum quite a bit. Take care! |
