I would NOT put a Deka AGM battery in my KLR. Deka recommends far lower charging voltage than my KLR provides.

The Technical Manual from Deka is here: http://www.dekabatteries.com/assets/base/0139.pdf. The bottom of page 11 has the charging voltage for Deka AGM batteries. For 60F to 70F the chart says float voltage should be under 13.85V. At 80F the float voltage should be under 13.5V.

The initiial charge from my KLR is well within the specification, but after running for a while the charge voltage is far higher than the Deka spec. (The Technical Manual has a section about how too-high voltage damages their batteries.)

I have a Deka ETX15L in my '75 CB750 where I could turn down the charging voltage. I considered swapping with my KLR, but the information from Deka nixed that idea. I still use the flooded battery that came in my KLR and I replace the boiled-off water. (I use a large syringe to get water in those small holes.)

I was very unhappy with a deka I tried a few years ago. After about one to two hours of charging my gps off the electrical system it would blow the 1-2 amp fuse in the charger. Swapped the battery for an odyssey when the deka died, and problem solved!

Just ordered a DEKA for my old KLR. My OEM battery is starting to show its age and its cranking slow this winter so for under $70.00 I figured why the heck not!? Heres hoping its like night and day! (I dont even have a cig charger on my bike so that sorta stuff isnt an issue though I wouldnt mind having at least one - I just dont have the know how.)
