a tour of the UK
so I think I might come to blighty w/ one of the guys I teach the safety course with.
loose plan is to rent, maybe from Raceways in London, and go for a tour. maybe something like this: ![]() couple questions: Raceways any good? I know on the continent most of the dealers rent as well as sell, but it doesn't seem like that in the UK. we thought to hit the Cheddar Gorge, a bit of Wales, and see the Peak District, Lake District, maybe the Yorkshire Dales? If time permits onwards towards Scotland? any of you UK based ADV'ers have some suggestions? Perhaps even some Garmin files? That'd be super. Hell, I'd even go so far as to stand you a pint if our paths cross. cheers!

Hi Greg
What kind of bike are you thinking of renting? What time of year are you coming over? I live in Leeds which is in Yorkshire, be sure to give me a shout and I'll take you to some good places in and around Yorkshire. All the best. DG |

I think we'll just get some VStrom 650's or similar. They seem pretty reasonable price-wise. Plan is to fly over maybe 29 June, and stay until 9 July. I know where Leeds is, been there once upon a time. My mum & dad were from Scunthorpe when plans are final I will be sure to shoot you a note.

![]() We stayed here on our end of year jaunt last year, its on the Caledonian Canal so looks like its sort of on your route http://www.hostel-scotland.co.uk/ The above link is a good starting point for affordable accommodation. Fuel gets a bit more expensive the further north you go its gonna cost you way up North but the scenery is well worth it. Castle of Mey in Caithness has a good coffee shop and cakes to die for. Hope you make it to Scotland, our roads are just the best.

Have fun Greg! I lived in England for a little while, but didn't have a motorcycle there and wasn't allowed to rent one (weird study abroad rules). Luckily they didn't think to include airplanes on the list of prohibited activities
If you happen though Oxford hit up Turf Tavern - its quite historic and interesting - also supposedly the location where a certain US president was careful not to inhale anything. Its super hard to find, but there'll be plenty of college students that can direct you.

I wouldn't bother with England. It's overcrowded, there are too many stupid car drivers on the roads and too many speed restrictions and speed cameras. For the most part, the roads and scenery are uninspiring.
Fly into Glasgow or Edinburgh, rent a bike locally and head up the West Coast. Take in some of the islands if you have time.
