The Arkansas Rides Pt III - chased by dogs for 145 miles

I attended (sort of) the Hillbilly Rally this weekend. I say "sort of" because I'm not sure if riding counts as "attending". I didn't hang out at the apres ride bonfire, tempting as it was. What I did do was meet up with local celeb DrLewall and a number of other locals and rally attendees for two days of riding. As always the Arkansas crew proved to be excellent company which was appreciated by me and other visiting riders. We experienced a LOT of the Ozarks on Thursday and a soggy Friday. Like any "Adventure" there were a few mishaps. On Thursday Docs bike took a crap mid day, DRZ Charlie did a slow speed, but painful fall, and on Friday there were a few spills (ok-one ), some missed connections, as well as coming across one seriously downed rider. Naturally anyone coming across the accident did what they could do to help and one of our group, Mossy Creek who's an EMT, stayed behind to offer assistance. Hope you're okay Ducati Elephant guy! (edit - I recently found out his name is George)

Anyway, I missed Saturday's ride, and no one was up for a ride Easter Sunday (that I knew of anyway) so I decided to round out my Arkansas ride reports with an all day, all dirt (mostly) solo ride. Part I was a big GS 50/50 mix ride. Part II was an all paved twisty ride. This one is mostly dirt for 141 miles. The only pavement is a few connectors for 2 or 3 miles. The dirt difficulty ranges between high speed straights and steep twisty rocky climbs. Water crossings are plentiful and territorial dogs outnumber those 10 to 1. as always, there will be pie.

The ride starts out in Clifty and winds up to the top of the hills (mountains?). The terrain reminds me of Wisconsin somewhat. This route runs through more farms than I'm used to seeing in the Ozarks. Farms have dogs.

Lots of elevation changes. One minute you'll be riding a ridge line and another you'll be down in the valley alongside a river or creek.

The views are wonderful. You can see the road you'll be on continuing up the next mountain. So far the roads are pretty smooth and you can really move along if you wish.

The road varies mile to mile. Here you can see it's fairly loose with coarse gravel. Okay on a small bike and doable on a GS, but maybe a bit squirrely. The view makes up for it.

Back down into the valley. This pic is from last fall and featured in Part I. There is some sharing of routes which will be the case when one has a particular destination in mind....

and that destination has pie

It was good to meet you at Mossy Creek. Other than dressing and talking funny [wait a minute....so does Doc!]...never mind.

I'm glad you like our area. Now quit telling everyone.

Nice to meet you too. I didn't think you dressed that funny.

It was a treat to hang out at one fine man cave and ogle shiny bits on sweet rides.
