Dance Clubs and Motorcycle Mechanics

My best friend Chris and I are putting together plans for our RTW trip in 2013, and we realized there are two types of places which we need the community's help finding.

What are these two things? Well obviously the hottest dirtiest dance clubs in every city we drive through, and obviously the little no-name motorcycle genius-mechanic shop that you'd never find on google. So how do we find these places and make a list, so when we're rolling through Rio we don't miss the hot spots or when we breakdown in Mumbai we know of a good spot to push the damn bike?

We ask you oh friendly world travelers: Would you help out and take 3 minutes to tell us about the hottest spot or slickest mechanic from one of the countries we plan to visit? If Yes, then go
here to tell us about your favorite spot. (https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/...RFdTNXplSnc6MQ)

Once we are able to build the list out a bit,
we'll share it on this thread for all to see!

Thank you!

Nate & Chris

Cool idea but....

Your profile doesn't say where you are now or what kind of bikes you'll be on.

Is Mexico as far north in NA as you're getting?

Good luck and have fun, Mark H.

We're in Washington DC and New York City, NY now.

Yeah this is as far north as we're getting!

We'll be on two KLRs we've been building for the last couple years.

We leave in 16 months.

Hope2013 - I can help you with India but the issue is every street claims a mechanic & 1000's of authorized service stations. But not a single service station for KLR!!!

You'll need to find an independent mechanic who knows sericing SBK's which is not an issue in places like Mumbai, Chennai or Delhi. But have your drafted the route for India? If not, let me know your preferences or interest & I can help you as much as possible to make your ride memorable. BTW...welcome to my country

Thank you! Awesome!

So I we're pretty adept at servicing the KLR - I don't expec to need a mechanic unless there is some catestrophic engine issues. That said, parts is something we'll def need!

We don't have a route for India yet, but will be building that over the next couple months.

ps - Dance club reccomendations? We've got moves!

i think you should check djmag or fodors, the only advice you should take from adv is travel advice (not dance club advice), beer and bikes. anything more and these FF's are nuts that being said there is this cool electronic/dance in singapore called zouk (might be spelled wrong but sounds correct) I went to, meant to be good I didn't see anything special about it but it is highly rated. also a ministry of sound there if i recall correctly.

good luck planning and since your taking our advice we expect to see pictures of girls.

The Big Apple in Medellin, Colombia go there and you will never need to leave.Quite a bit more than a dance club

Best motorshop in the North of South America is Asturias in Cali, Colombia run by Jorge, there is none better but many cheaper. Was the greatest I'd ever found.

You don't need a list for the night clubs. After you've been on the road a few weeks, you'll discuss with other travelers what's ahead, with respect to places to sleep and play and it'll all come naturally.

Hope you're taking some good cable locks with that country list. I've been to some on your list & they are so seriously 3rd world there are no good night clubs. Or if there are, you SURE don't want to head out with a local.

Go and meet the locals. Have a ball, but take the safety and security shit seriously. My friend and I made it through a bungled kidnap attempt on Christmas morning in '95 in Cali, Columbia. The guy was a taxi driver and it was simply because were from the US. Love the people and countryside there, but you really do have to stay awake. I got robbed of some tools there too. Years back, a German girl hanging with our group in Jamaica got knifed in the toilet as she was robbed. DO spend the $300 for MedJet evacuation insurance!!!

On the up side, in many of those countries you may be able to make money teaching english or could trade a lesson for a meal.

In the African countries, the locals will hound you to help them or their kids move to America.

Typical glass bottle gas station, this one on the main coastal highway between Cote d'ivoire & Cameroon:
