Central Asia 2010: The Rocking Chair Tour

Tom:

I met up with you at Stefan Knopf`s place in Heidelberg Germany a few weeks.

You were coming back from your Central Asia tour and I was just getting back from my two weeks of motorcycling around the Alps.

After reading your ride report I am definitely envious of what you guys
experienced on your trip. Regardless of the fact that you had to change
your trip`s itinerary, it looks like you all had a memorable motorcycling experience.

After reading the section of your trip report on Turkey, its got me thinking
that Turkey may be a good trip destination for me come next year.

I enjoyed meeting up with you at Stefan`s and hearing first hand
about your trip.

Take care.

Back in Southern Czech R. again. I liked it here so I came back for another 4 days, camping and riding and generally lying around in the sun.

Hmmm, I don't think I'm on the main road anymore. Some of these puddles are getting kind of deep.

Is this the road?

If you squint you can kinda see that there might be a road across here.

It started to rain my last night in Czech. It rained all night and I packed up my wet tent and rode all day through the rain into Germany. I got a hotel room in Wurzburg and strung all my wet gear up to dry. The next day I rode into Heidelberg to Stefan Knopf's where we started 3 months ago.

My bike is strapped to a pallet now, battery disconnected, less than a gallon of gas in the tank. We loaded the pallet into the back of a trailer and it's ready to go to the airport. Stefan is airshipping it home to Denver for me and he thinks it will get there before I do. Good trip: 3 months, 12,000 miles, lots of countries, lots of people, lots of good riding, but it's time to go home.

Shu, I may have missed this, but which tank do you have on your DR?
And how was your fuel mileage?

Thanks

Hey WOXOF-

That's an IMS Tank (19 L)- Fuel mileage on my DR is always about 50 mpg. (Sometimes I think it was closer to 60 since I filled up with almost the same amount as the F650 Dakars.) I didn't try to figure gas mileage too often since my odometer is in miles, and the gas was measured in liters.

DR650 Report

A few people have asked me for a final report on the Suzuki DR 650 and how it did on this trip. It did great! Anyone who's interested, I just posted a report on the DR650 thread on page 2581:

Just got done reading this whole ride report. Wow, what a trip. It really seemed like the trip of a lifetime. Sorry to hear about the electrical troubles but it sounds like all of you still got to experience so much. Thanks for sharing the story and the beautiful photos that went along with it. Nice work guys!

Glad to hear you enjoyed it. it was a great adventure. I hope it was one of many trips of a lifetime. I fixed my bike last year and left it for a year in Holland. 3 weeks ago I picked it up again and after a few initial minor issues it it is running great on a mini rockingchair tour. I am currently in Turkey on my way to Armenia. Turkey is great as always.

I have my mind on completing last years trip next year. We'll see.
