Agreed. I have a 1450. Perfect spot for compressor, irons/tire kit, tools, chain lube, rags, windex wipes, and registration. It's nice to have a lockable spot on the bike to put all that stuff.

I've had pelicans on my bikes for years. 1430s on my R1, complete set OF 1500s for saddle bags and 1400 topcase on my touring KLR and a 1520 on my girls touring KLR, her VStrom has Cariboou Case variants on it. So I'm kinda excited to have the 1550 as a topcase on the KTM for my upcoming long ride.
Here are some shots of the other set ups just for the fun of it. My dedicated travel KLR. (currently stored in San Francisco, flying out to ride it to L.A. I a few weeks) Picture taken somewhere in Oregon. ![]() Her KLR with a 1520 topcase Picture taken in Canada somewhere. ![]() My old R1 somewhere in Arizona with pelican 1430 panniers ![]() Her VStrom with the Caribou case version and ny KTM Somewhere in Colorado

Just put it on a few days ago. So far seems like a massive improvement, but have only done a few miles on it.
In 8 days I'm riding it from Denver two L.A. Then I will give more of an opinion. I did a http://www.diymotorcycleseat.com/ on my KLR650. When I get to L.A. I will be flying up to San Francisco and meeting my wife to ride our KLR650 down the coast for the next 4-5 days. (where we store the KLRs agian ) Then she flys home and I get back on my KTM and ride for a few more weeks. So it should be a good test of the Touratech seat vs the DIY one that I have put a billion miles on traveling on the KLR. I'll post back once I start ridding.

I rode my 990 to Arizona Bike Week and parked it next to 3000 Harley's. Then I proceeded to walk around in my KTM shirt and Klim hat. Some really cool stuff there but I could only bear being there for a couple hours.

Rode the sumbitch!
Finally rode it again.... This spring's been herky-jerky, as far as riding goes. Dead battery the first time I went to ride, even though it was a Shorai. Then a couple weeks of snow, and the next time I tried to ride the front tire was down to 18psi and wouldn't air up. Last year's non-abused extra heavy duty tube, too.
New tube, charged battery, ready set go! Wait, need to top off front tire. Both my Slime pump and my foot pump don't work, learned last week. Off to the minimart to buy air from the little compressor. . $.75 later, down from 28 to 18psi, stupid compressor doesn't kick in so chuck just lets air out. Sketchy couple highway miles to nearest air at 18psi, got both tires pumped up. Finally WENT FOR A RIDE!!!!!! Fiancee and I rode about 20 minutes to nearby town, bought stuff, rode home. Was our first ride together, too. I'm a lucky man. Since the bike is a KTM 990, I managed to tear up some gravel and accidentally left a big trench in the driveway. I did warn her not to get behind me on loose stuff, oh well. Her Guzzi will live. Ooops. 1911fan

I think I added about a pound of copper to my bike this weekend. I installed radar detector, added all the wiring for my GPS & Radar sound to my MIXIT and added a cable to the rear for my wife to listen to music too.
I even changed the oil last night. I only got about 2 quarts out. Hmmm I think I better keep a closer eye on my levels in the future. ![]() On a side project I started cutting up my old 950 seat foam to install it on my 525EXC for a wider softer seat for long rides. I think my electric carving knife has done more seat foam than it has Turkey.

Rode a little over 300 miles of gravel and rural asphalt charting a route for a DS event next year. That covered leg 1 and the trip home. Lottsa good dirt roads. Gonna be fun!
Bike decided to do a Harley-D imitation by cracking the rear exhaust pipe on the part that drops into the swing arm. Now I gotta go find those OC threads about the best way to fix it. Seems I've read that the Adventure pipes are nickel-plated steel. So they weld like steel. Just have to figure out whether to nickel plate the part after the welding, or, ceramic coat it. Geez, and I just got it back on the road two weeks ago after being down for repairs since New Year's day. Picked up a bottle of 12 year old Glen Morey single malt to drown my sorrows.

Honestly, I was debating buying a 990R but decided that I like this one too much so gave it a renewal instead.
