I was only going to check the valves, really...

Tore it down to check the valves, second time in 35K miles. I was ready for the job with CJdesigns Hot Cams kit:

Only 2 exhaust shims needed (one in each head, of course), barely a half size. The valves are holding nicely.

While it was apart ...

Installed a new Wings can, direct from Slovenia.

2-into-1 is from HT Racing

Installed a Dimple SuperMagnet sump oil plug, OEM on the right

Installed a right-hand side shroud over my second fan

Converted to studs on crash bar mounts

Tested my fuel pressure. It was a little low

so I serviced the fuel pump. The used parts:

Had my suspension forks and shock shock revalved and serviced by Konflict Motorsports

Sooo much nicer now.

While I was re-installing the suspension I noticed the steering head bearing were too loose, took it apart and they were shot.
Rebuilt them with an All Balls kit from CJracer.

And, well... while the steering head was apart replaced the top triples with BRP and Scotts goodies

Put some almost-new Scorps on it and balanced the wheels, fixed all the other niggling little stuff, rewired so my heated handgrips were now on switched power and will no longer drain my battery when I forget them.

Noticed one of my throttle cable ends was frayed by the throttle bodies, so I replaced both with a Motion Pro throttle cable set. High quality construction, I think better than OEM, and less expensive than OEM.

and finally...

New chain and sprockets, bling SuperSprox in the rear (17/45). Filled 'er up with Jonah's Top 1 good stuff.

Wow, I forgot how much better and more stable it steers with good steering head bearings properly adjusted.
Wings can sounds mighty nice too IMHO.

Took my KTM for a ride with the new Dunlop trailmax tr91 tires. The first couple of km's were weird and I wasn't riding confident, but after that it got better. On loose gravel it's okay as long as you maintain speed, on the white sand in the background it wasn't really good. The front end just kept digging in. So it's a great tire for me, riding 90% on road

One weird thing though: these things are slippery on my garage floor

Love that 2-1 pipe

So that is some special muffler for bigger outlet diameter of the HT 2-1 pipe....is it from BMW or something?

Installed a Dimple SuperMagnet sump oil plug, OEM on the right

Is it any better than original?

Installed a right-hand side shroud over my second fan

Where did you get this one from?

Wings can sounds mighty nice too IMHO.

Aeroflow on my 990A

Aeroflow works great, but too tall for me (6', 34" inseam) so I added two holes to lower it 2".

Still flows air over me and now I look over it. Much better for a short squirt like me. Shoulda ordered the medium, but easier to lower than raise.

Made it from a left side deflector that I trimmed and modified a bit and mounted with cable ties.

I didn't like the FMF muffler that came with the HT Racing system. I sent my 2-into-1 specs to Gorazd Marovic of Wings during the Winter when things were slower and he made a custom can for my 2" OD header. Awesome craftsmanship!

Don't know yet, just installed it Saw it on OC somewhere www.drainplugmagnets.com/ and seemed like a good idea to capture more metalic debris. Mine is the M22 x 9mm

Their next size up M22 x 14mm was too long and interfered with engine parts inside the drain opening. I'm just experimenting.

Help

hello I was not sure where to post this. I own an RC8 and need to complete my 10,000km service, which includes valve adjustments etc. A fellow rider who owns and does all his own work on his adventure/enduro KTM has offered to help me with the service. I'm hoping someone can advise me on if I need to let a pro do this tune up, or if I can rely on a knowledgeable friend?
Thank you
Matthew

Added Carbon Fiber.

Looking bling vinyl that is.

The paint on top of my right fairing was starting to peal of and getting worse. I found some 3M Dinoc looking stuff here in Thailand that is supposed to be from Taiwan and covered it up.

While I was at it I decided to cover that hideous looking Rally Raid Screen that they neglect to finish on one side.

Before the Bling:

After:

Dull side gone:
