Picked it up last night, fitted the rear luggage rack then took it for a spin this evening. I'm just waiting for the top box mount after the shop forgot to add it to the box.



(that's not my house btw...)

Got the safari tank installed today. Really wasn't that bad. All holes lined up. Cant ask for more then that.

Section by section, mate. That stuff - while nice and thin (which, I assume, is why it's fairly spendy compared to other types) - is still a bit too stiff to go on in one hit. Plus it definitely don't shrink down under heat, like you'd need it to, in order to get a close fit.

  • Cover larger [easy] areas first

2004 950 with 52K miles.

Just got this done this week.
- CPR Air Filter
- Remus cans (2-2)
- Mains 165/170
- PJ #45
- Needle Factory Pro 3 slot
- Air screws out 2 3/4
Evelavtion at repair shop is near sea level. I live at 3K ft
= 76HP@8KRPM rear wheel on Factory Pro EC997a Dyno
Runs like it never has before. Hang on cause the front wheel is off the ground. I am very impressed and happy with Raul's tuning skills. Give him a call at Wheelsmith Racing in San Rafael Ca.

Dropped my tanks in prep for the new heat shield material, and to allow access to fix fuel line routing.

Also remeasured my right tank that has sat empty for over a month compared to when I got it and the tank was full. 3% shrinkage from the ethanol and water evap and tank shrink back to "stock" size. much easier to fit on the bike, no rubbing on any panels and the bolts all line up.

Changed oil, changed coolant, changed clutch lever and fluid, changed spark plugs, added the second fan (connector hate), cleaned front cyl pipe and drilled out the stuck heatshield bolts, added 1/2 gal of fuel to left side to fire the bish up and proceeded to have carb leaking everywhere. (yes I had run it dry before storage) let it sit overnight and now no leaks as seals re-expand (ordered o-rings just in case).

Whats left? Sidestand relocate, brake flush, cable lube, clean the airbox and heatwrap (impressive covering the bottom and top but I will cover the triangles also!), carb balance, fit crash bar studs and crashbars, swingarm bearings and rear wheel bearings.
(All of the remaining stuff will get done as I ride and get bored, but first, MORE RIDING.

Huh, I work in San Rafael and I didn't even know these guys existed. Are they setup with TuneECU?

They are set up for fuel injection tuning but I dont know what system they use. The have a web site, look up Wheelsmith Racing/factory pro. Raul and Otto run the shop. From my experiance they know what they are doing.They have been tuning race bikes for AMA road racers etc.

Over the last few weeks (had issues with my Safari tanks) I have been doing:

1. Oil and filter change with CJ tube and drain kit and clean clutch oil jet
2. Coolant flush with destiled and Water Wetter
3. Rebuild fuel pump with new filters
4. CPR air filter
5. Pulled butterfly shafts (PO pulled butterflies off already) and silicone holes
6. Remove SAS (canisters already gone)
7. Tune with TuneEcu (still a work in progress)
8. Mount Safari tanks...what a mess so far...hopefully the new set I have will work out.
9. Euro headlight
10. New KTM heated grips (only halfway done though)
11. Slavens Skid plate
12. New battery

Still need to:
1. Figure out what to do with my driving lights
2. Go to Seat Concepts to get my seat did
3. New tires...not sure what to get for my trip to Steamboat riding the COBDR along the way
4. Modify Happy Trails rack to clear CJ storage tank
5. Mount Zumo GPS antenna so it has better view of sky

Wow...I did a lot, never wrote it all down till now, and still have a lot to do.
