Noticed the link in your signature to a RXC. Note the link in my sig to a RXC. Brought back those feelings of seller's remorse.

tank range

I've had my 2012 (bought new in 2013) 990 adventure for a couple of months. I got the run in miles done and it had its first service. I have a trip to the Alps planned for next month on the bike and wondered about tank range.

I set off with 147 miles on the trip and a fuel can with a few litres in the top box. The fuel light had just come on. I was expecting maybe another 30 miles but I got all the way to 200.4 miles before it gave up on me. I was delighted by this!

So what you are saying is that you got 53 miles after the light had come on? Did you wait for it to stall?

Yes, I picked quiet roads and the engine cut out. First cut out was at 199.6 it restarted and cut out again at 200.4.

Oddly the light first came on at 147 miles and started the "mileage since the light came on count up" on the dash, it then flicked off on a long downhill and shortly after restarted the count up again. At the 200.4 miles on the trip meter I was reading about 38 miles since the light came on (the second time). Presumably the downhill had fooled the fuel gauge into thinking there was more in the tank than there was.

Good to know. Thanks. That means I should be able to ride about 70 kms after my fuel light comes on...

Well....I'm sure they're all different and riding styles are all different. My 200 miles was all on tarmac roads, I think it would be a different story on the trail.

Noticed my left crash bar was out of place after my Off on a gravel road. Tried to get it back in place. What a pain!
Didn't it back in place. I hope it's not bent, it was a slow fall. I'll try again later.

Pulled the carbs -- again. New floats and needles installed, and now I have to repair a leak.

Rode it, and adjusted IAMS to 2.25 turns. It was at ~1.75 when I bought it and popped and crackled like crazy, as well as turning the headers blue. Now it's a tad rich. Going to back off to 2 turns next time I'm in there, as well as figure out what jets the PO put in as it seems to be running pretty rich. 36 mpg at the moment, fwiw.

Going to pick up a new Mefo in the morning. The current one has a 1.5" gash in it that it patched temporarily. $75 in stock.

and a Weld86 skidplate is on the way! Future mods will be a CJ sidestand relocation and a voltage and an oil pressure gauge for peace of mind.

As a latecomer to riding and after spending some 5K km on my Duke125, I have bought me a new to me 990 Adv

Named her ''Agent Orange'' and of course took her out right away, and on my 3rd day I joined a close circuit riding course to get to know her. Day followed with Roger Waters concert
A week later joined a 2 day RoadCraft with One More Mile riders Turkey
Did some 800 km, being my first long trip on a bike . Man what a beast it is y'all know anyways !

And nice being here :)
Despite feeling slightly higher than a caveman compared to most of you guys out there I'll try to contribute to the forum as much as I can.

Cheers :)

Gorgeous machine, especially with the Akrapovics. Take the baffles out of the Akras pronto. It's just one screw, you can put them back in 30 seconds if you like. You'll find the sound is sweeter, but more importantly the motor will run soooo much smoother. It seems to improve the jerky throttle too.

I spoke with an Akra rep at a show and he said the baffles are so easily removed because Akra would put a sticker on them saying "remove before riding" if the law allowed.

Roger Waters puts on a great show!
